US being behind something (pulling the strings) is way different than what you're talking about here, really you're just proving my point.

How is it different? And I've lost track of what your point was in the first place. Unless it was to dodge responsibility for your government's illegal actions and war crimes.

Your language is unnecessarily inflammatory and seem unrelated to this, unless you think the US committed war crimes in Ukraine?

My point is: Ukraine does not want Putin to consume them. It isn't the US using Ukraine, it is Ukraine asking for help. Putin's agents infiltrated Ukraine and Ukraine kicked them out (yes with intelligence and money given by the US and others).

Do you see the difference?

> because China would not have become the technical behemoth it is now if those protests had succeeded Taiwan's GDP/capita is 2.6x China's [1]. It grew faster, for longer, in large part through high technology. Counterfactuals are always hard in history. But we literally have the nationalist government's democratic, capitalist successor kicking in way above its weight class economically and technologically. It's fair…

It’s much easier to increase the GDP per capita for 20 million people compared to 1.4 billion especially when Taiwan started with a 10x higher GDP per capita. If anything they have lost a significant percentage of their lead. I don’t think what worked in Taiwan would work in China because the scale is astounding.

Is that true? The whole point of per capita is to cancel out the linear benefit of 100 million workers being able to outproduce 10 million workers. There are ways for small countries to have a per capita GDP higher than would be feasible for a larger country, but Taiwan doesn’t really do any of those. They don’t have oil or any other particularly valuable natural resources, and they aren’t a tax shelter like Ireland or a microstate with workers commuting across the border like Luxembourg. They have to create wealth the hard way, through labor productivity, just like the mainland. And between the two, the mainland has the potential to realize greater economies of scale.

> getting educated on a subject Hah. "Get educated because I don't like the way you use the word" From one of the articles you shared: “acts committed with intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such.” Let's see what Israeli leadership have said (a small sample), and then go look at aerial photos of Gaza now, and then tell me who needs to be educated: Yoev Gallant…

In this case, it’s the most inefficient genocide anyone has ever seen. Instead of looking at the crap that comes out of the mouths of this horrible government, look at what actually happened. Israel had everyone rallied up, yet they were not exterminated en mass like you and other commenters are saying. The death toll in this war is a result of Hamas and their supporters taking advantage of the population to protect…

Love you trying to show you're balanced, but end up spouting Hasbara points. 'most inefficient genocide' - this isn't a freaking KPI board.

>> if you poll Israelis about their views of Palestinians, you'll find that the majority want to exterminate them all > Can you point me to that poll, or is that just your opinion? Not the parent, and not claiming anything about the truth or falsehood of this, but your comment got me to Google it, and this is what I found: https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/majority-israelis-support... https://www.trtworld.com/articl…

It sounds crazy to me, and indeed very disturbing if it was true. However if it was true, I would have known at least one person to fit the image they’re portraying. I know none. I tried to find the original publication, but all I found was press coverage. Specifically I’m interested in the demographics - who was asked these questions, aside from the religious attributes that they name.

The correct course of actions is to reexamine your beliefs in light of the new evidence that was presented to it, not shut off your mind completely. If you still doubt its truth, you can easily get more with a quick google search. Also, it's not like Israel's government ever tried to hide their genocidal rhetoric (well, outside of the PR they serve the West, of course).

Now apply this argument to Saudi Arabia and ask yourself why Iran is on the receiving end of this propaganda and not the former. America gives zero fucks about the oppressed minorities of this world, in fact, it is to blame for a lot of this oppression. War and starvation never improved any society.

> Now apply this argument to Saudi Arabia What argument? Saudi Arabia and IR are fundamentally different countries and cultures. Do you see the same dissatisfaction of saudis with the ruling family? Saudis are not interested in getting nukes unless Iran gets nukes. Saudis are not revolutionaries and don’t care about the spread of revolution.

Grandparent was specifically pointing to women's rights as a reason to invade Iran and overthrow their government. I was asking why we never hear such things against Saudi Arabia, a country that is comparatively misogynistic. My point is that the invasion of Iran isn't coming from any good intentions for its people. The United States have shown times and times again that they are fine with dictatorships, as long as the dictator in question grants them privileged access to whatever they may desire. Hell, they've even created dozens of dictatorships accross the world, sometimes even overthrowing democracies.

Love you spouting memes such as “hasbara” instead of responding to the point.

You understand exactly what I mean, yet you try to portray what I said as if I’m alluding to a technicality. If a nation has the means and intent for genocide, you get a genocide. This is not what it is.

Lastly, I’m not trying to show I’m balanced, and neither are you.

I did spend quite some time trying to find the original publication to no avail, thank you very much. If it’s so easy, maybe you’ll be kind enough to help me. Just let me know if you find an actual rigorous paper or just an outrage piece meant to horrify everyone.

I am aware of this rhetoric you mention, I hate it myself, but I believe that it’s populist bullshit, just like most things this government is saying, including stuff that doesn’t get worldwide coverage, and are intended to cause outrage and get media coverage. This pattern (sadly) repeats in most western nations nowadays.

If there was ever an actual intent to get rid of the Palestinians, you would get an order of magnitude more dead. The means exist, not the intent.

Iran is not an adversary of Israel, as much as the IRGC is.

Any subsequent government isn't likely to be a friend of Israel, either. They might decide to stop actively funding attacks and put the money to better use, but I wouldn't be so sure of that. It's the basis of a lot of ally relationships that they will want to maintain.

I agree, we don’t know what comes after bad leadership. Maybe a worse one. I’m afraid there isn’t much worse than a leadership that openly states that Israel should be destroyed, while developing a nuclear program. Maybe a similar but more competent leadership is worse.

>it would be wise to remove a player from the board who would happily provide access to fuel and refining capacity to PRC. Washington has an easier way to do that: namely, to use its navy and the Sentinel Islands (controlled by Washington ally India) to prevent the transit of tankers from Iran to China.

Yes, possibly, but running an indefinite blockade or interdiction operation is still costly. It is lower in complexity in terms of operational capabilities required than a decapitation strike against the potential co-belligerent, although this is rapidly changing, but in order to effectively run one you are dedicating a very sizable percentage of your overall combat power away from the front. Additionally, I am skept…

>I am skeptical that the Indian Navy could handle such an operation independently.

No need for them to: they just have to permit US warplanes to operate from the Sentinel Islands.

A reminder that American economic sanctions are a primary cause of the situation that causes protests against the Iranian government. Our government is attempting to destroy Iran, an independent nation that is not our enemy. When will American students stage a large scale anti-government protest against the regime? Oh right, the billionaires and zionist lobby cracked down on the encampments with the (violent) help of…
