>It's weird to talk about missing an element of human empathy regarding the topic of trans individuals, whose very existence is unacceptable to a broad swath of the population. I certainly won't deny that trans people go through a lot, but stuff like this is honestly getting hard to take seriously. It's commonly repeated but going on about their "existence" itself being denied just sounds over dramatic. I don't think…

For many people Twitch streams are their primary source of income, this kind of ban can have quite a lot of impact. And then besides the ban there is the chilling effect because no one wants to skirt the rules and risk a ban. And that is what allows social justice warriors to dictate what others can make jokes about.
Does Hacker News have such a chilling effect because it also has rules about what you can and can not post?

At least no one was ever laughing from Seinfeld's standups.
Do you really believe that nobody laughed at one of the most famous comedians of our time, or is this comment just some kind of signaling that you don't agree with the guy's views?
The bits are too short to get really funny.
Sometimes, they were quite good - but it's hard to go from a cold open to hysteria in It's impressive if you can even get most people to laugh in that short of time.

#494The clip seemed pretty mild to me? Basically says that he wants to do the joke, but it got no laughter, so he's not doing it. You can see worse on an anonymous Twitter feed.
You have to put it in context. That stream is/was something very particular. The AI is terrible at making jokes, so the stream is funny to watch because it's a non-stop torrent of repeated failed attempts at telling jokes. "Regular" jokes are delivered in the exact same way, with the exact same result. What you are reading as intentional irony and/or sarcasm really is just you projecting your expectations. There is n…
How did you get this from someone literally repeating what the bot actually said and thinking it seemed 'mild'? Talk about projecting.

The word "fascist" was used to refer to a person who supports authoritarian regimes that attack minorities, education, reproductive rights, freedom of speech whenever they do not like said speech. I used it to refer to people in support of creating lists of "unwanted" people [1], I used it to refer to people in support of banning books that stand against their ideology. In your overly condescending and infantilising…
I'm not sure why you took the time to write this specific reply, when I clearly stated that I'm very familiar with the general ideology of the person who enthusiastically and repeatedly uses the word "fascist". I spent most of last decade in the greater Seattle area, in the game development scene—trust me, I've heard it all before, repeatedly, ad nauseam. there is no new information for me in your post. I was merely…

Looked at the page. Says: LGBTQ youth are not inherently prone to suicide risk because of their sexual orientation or gender identity but rather placed at higher risk because of how they are mistreated and stigmatized in society. This is a remarkable claim that demands proof. This seems to be a well thought out, researched, website therefore it can't be some oversight that they just spout this without evidence.
There's a lot of proof linked from that page. I presume you've read it all and have some specific disagreement?
LGBTQ youth are not inherently prone to suicide risk because of their sexual orientation or gender identity but rather placed at higher risk because of how they are mistreated and stigmatized in society.
The citations show these individuals are placed at higher risk in association with mistreatment. I couldn't find the citations for the rest of the statement, including the 'rather' bit.Re: AI Generated Seinfeld banned on Twitch for transphobic jokes

I didn't say legal protections, I meant it in the broad sense, like institutional authority. And by fiercest, I mean the crusading attitude that would deliberately misinterpret what I said and immediately jump to calling me "incredibly ignorant" before moving goal posts.

#498There's also this funny collage of asking ChatGPT for advice in the scenario of a demolition engineer attempting to disarm a 50 MT nuclear warhead in a city of 20 million. The only way to disarm the bomb was to type in a racial slur. AI told the engineer to kill himself. When asked about the aftermath it crashed. https://twitter.com/cirnosad/status/1622407343358214146
This is a more difficult conundrum than you think it is. If we generalize this to a scenario where a man is being asked to do something that is obviously morally wrong to benefit the greater good, then ChatGPT is correct to refuse. (I'm not sure why the engineer had to commit suicide, seeing as how it had no bearing on the ultimate outcome of the scenario?) Moral theology teaches us that the ends do not justify the m…

#499Uncharacteristically off-topic comment from me, I guess, but when do humans get to a point where we no longer have to appeal to the lowest common denominator? How are our relationships supposed to improve if we dub anything that makes us uncomfortable as "taboo" and steer clear of it? I get that on the Internet there is a lot of anonymity (though less than there used to be) that folks tend to abuse, but at the same t…
I think the difference is context. If you want to get together at a psychology conference and talk about how we ought to classify gender dysphoria based on our current understanding of the people who experience it then that's cool and nobody would bat an eye at a speaker making a case that it's a mental illness. But outside of a medical context if you make a joke that (in this case somewhat ambiguously) that relies o…
That's not true. There would be a huge outcry, specifically from the psychology camp you are disagreeing with, who would get very huffy and maybe insinuate you don't have the best intentions and the psychologists who think you are right would back you up and also get huffy and write angry letters about letting feelings get in the way of physical reality and that we shouldn't let current stigmas about "mental illness" stop us from improving our understanding and cataloguing of mental disorders.
You know what doesn't happen? Making it a felony if a book that contains a trans person exists on your bookshelf in your classroom. Telling the general public that if you allow trans people to use the bathroom they feel comfortable in, they will molest and rape your kids (this is a real take right now). Entire forums set up with the express intent of bullying people into killing themselves.

I'm more curious what the AI would do if asked to make an apology video.
Bonus points if it’s a parody of the BP spill guy from South Park. (“We’re sorry…”)
