nah, there's more fires with USB A because it's more widespread, simple as that. There are plenty C cables from your favorite online dollar store (amazon, aliexpress, jd etc) which are a serious fire hazard.

I know there are issues with it, but I love USB-C. We are building a weekender campervan with my wife (don't judge) and we decided that there is no point spending money (and space) on an inverter anymore. Most things we have (laptops/phones/cameras) either already charges from USB-C (or compatible with an adapter), or a 12V charger exists. In fact we won't even hard-wire USB-C wall ports, because cigarette lighter USB adapters are constantly improving (current best ones are around 60W on a single port). We are saving a ton of money and modern DC-DC chargers are probably way more efficient and less bulky than and 12VDC->110AC->9-12VDC conversion could ever be. I wouldn't be surprised if this trend continued and we started seeing little off-grid cabins go entirely DC. It just makes sense.

When I was a kid, we had this massive high-voltage transformer that produced about 2,000 volts, at some sick amperage. We used it to make jacob's ladders. That was fun. Until I touched the two bars. I woke up on the other side of the room, smelling burning... me . That wasn't fun...

For the record, the M1's GPU performance doesn't even start to compete with the 2021 laptop market, much less the 2014 one. GPUs have always been the biggest power draw in these laptops, and it's honestly no surprise that Apple can cut their power consumption down to 10w when their GPU is as pathetic as it is.

I don't think this is accurate. [0] and [1] have 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited Graphics benchmark tested on both the M1 and the 4800U in the Lenovo Yoga Slim-7-14ARE and the M1's GPU stomps the Vega 8 R4000. It outscores even the Ryzen 5000 series iGPU. I've seen no evidence that the M1's GPU is anything but best in class for integrated graphics. You're right, but I don't think that the other commenter was speaking to iGPUs. Higher wattage laptops mostly have beefy GPUs sucking up that power, and you'd be hard pressed to find any iGPU that compares (including that of the M1)

Utility-sized cables, or alternatively a separate sense wire to measure the voltage on the other end of the cable. This would allow you to adjust the output voltage of the power supply to deliver the required voltage, including the voltage drop over the cable, and your LEDs would work just fine.

At least as long as the cable doesn't catch fire from the resulting power dissipation...
