I have unrelated issues with Cloudflare becuase they're a single entity that controls access to far too much of the internet, in my opinion. In this case specifically, I moved the domain away since they want you to pay extra money to use custom DNS servers.

iirc, custom DNS at CF refers to using your own subdomains as name servers for CF instead of the regular *.ns.cloudflare.com. Basically a form of whitelabelling. Specifying 3rd party name servers as your domain’s name server was (still is?) not possible with Cloudflare Registrar. (Disclaimer: I work there)

Thank you for this information, I was planning to move my domains.google domains to Cloudflare, but now I think I won't do that. I'll still use Cloudflare, but the inability to use my own NS is a dealbreaker for using Cloudflare as a registrar in my opinion.

What did you pick?

I moved to Logseq (https://logseq.com/).

It also better follows my note taking habits. It is usually a single sentence I want to be timestamped and searchable (which is also why I wrote https://github.com/wsw70/dly to simplify the quick note taking)

Do you have a source for this? I'm really curious on this for .dev domains, and how it will affect the nicer pricing Google Domains offered against all other registrars for their own internal registry domains (And you seem really knowledgeable in this space, heh)

The source is I am the tech lead / engineering manager of the Google Registry team.

Exposure Notifications was a great try by Google and Apple. If it weren't a thing, most big government would develop more privacy invasive contact tracing app. It seems that it wasn't worked well, but still a great try.

I trust my government much more than I trust Google and Apple not to invade my privacy.

They’re all 100% so is there any difference?

There’s no technological reason you have to wait, it’s all business rules.

Business rules written into the ICANN contracts. And said rules are enforced in "technological" code as well.

Thanks! I couldn’t find that. Notably, no mention of if the GCP Cloud Domains product is affected or the status of Google’s TLDs.

Cloud Domains is being killed along with Google Domains, TLDs are OK for now.
