I'd still say getting 7 years of free OS supports for hardware is pretty incredible. All-in-ones like iMacs are always going to be wasteful on the environmental side of things faster because displays will outlive the usefulness of the rest of it by a large large margin. At least Apple does try a bit to be a responsible recycler and you can always take your old hardware to them.

I'm used to a macbook trackpad and recently tried to use a cheaper windows laptop, and the trackpad drove me crazy. It's basically not possible for me to type something without my palms constantly moving the mouse cursor and doing random clicks. Had to return it because of it.

This reads like the last time you've evaluated is 2018. The entire office suite works great on Apple silicon with the exception of, obviously Win32 VBA macros and some PowerQuery features in Excel. There is just no way it is actually barely handling them. My 2012 with the dual core handles that. Fans turning on doesn't mean it barely handles it. That is just how those intel macs were. They were like that on day 1 in 2012. Spotlight indexing could be enough to spin the fans. Still does the job though even if its hot and noisy.
