I did transfer out and pay. How do I sue and how likely is it they close the account out of revenge and I lose the ~50GB that still needs to be there

Still vatsly cheaper than cloud, and comparable to OVH now.

Great read. I also recently moved everything over from DO to Hetzner for https://tempmaildetector.com across different regions*, and greatly simplified the server infra in the process. The other added benefit is that the resources available on each server are so great in comparison to DO that there’s plenty of room to grow vertically before even taking into account the additional horizontal scaling we can use thanks to the load balancing in place.

So a big win win all round. So good to see European providers are finally having their moment.

* I wish there were even more available and not sold out regions across Europe.

“Your own server in a colo” means going to the colo to swap RAM or an SSD when something goes wrong. You rent a server and the benefit is the rentor has spare parts on hand and staff to swap parts out.

You can also pay smart hands to do that. My experience with Equinix for example it's been great.

My experience with Equinix varies wildly by facility and somewhat by which tech gets the ticket. Chicago has been good, Seattle tolerable, Dublin is dumber than rocks. We flew somebody up there rather than take chances for a big project.

We've testing something similar, not using in prod yet. Network was 20ms RTT. The real variable was processing time median was sub-5ms most days but some regions would be 30ms for 8-10 hour blocks randomly.
