Surprisingly no, you can use an Android phone without an account. Though you cannot install any applications from the Play Store, tbf I'll count that almost as a positive.

It's safe to assume that Windows is backdoored, as it's closed, not audiatable and is a part of PRISM. It's not a proof, but this is how good opsec works. And yes, this is not equivalent to what the parent said, but your reaction should be similar.
While it is closed, we've had enough leaks from that era of Windows (which are still on GH) to know the kernel is not backdoor'ed.

At least on Proxmox the Solidworks and DAW latency problems are solvable.
Do tell! Specifically the DAW latency problems. I love the idea of running a DAW in a VM on Proxmox.
Create the VM with the native cpu intruction model, not the portable version, give sufficient memory (no ballooning), harware passthrough an entire PCIe USB hub (not the simple USB passthrough) for controllers and soundcards (I think this needs the device to support ACS for VFIO). In your Windows VM, make sure you install the virtio-win drivers. Also enable the qemu guest agent.
People report better audio latency accessing the VM through NoMachine or Parsec rather than Remote Desktop.
personally have been able to use windows without ever logging in since windows 8.1. the iot (embedded) version is the path of least resistance for most. it even contains old paint and calculator from windows 7! might be a skill issue, but i've found it easier to debloat once than to figure out fractional scaling in linux.

Word is just a bloated wordpad, and that's how people use it - to write text with paragraphs and justifications (recently wordpad supports docx). Then you have a limited view of creative way how humans collaborate, and clearly don't need bloated Office at all.
We converted some our docs from docx to markdown. The twist is that markdown supports tables, so it can replace both Word and Excel. Then I guess gitlab renders it. Literally markdown. It's stored in git, supports diffs, version history, collaboration is done with merge requests.
One thing I disagree with the article about is that drives should not be encrypted by default. For the vast majority of people an encrypted drive is just data loss lying in wait. It's really about personal privacy. Your computer is likely to be stolen and sold. If you don't want others reading your email, viewing your pictures, seeing your tax returns, etc. then you should encrypt the drive. I call this "The Pawn Shop Threat Model" ;) And, IME it is likely to happen.

I would put my money on that these leaks have full source code. Also, currently, Windows even AFAIK sends keystrokes to the US, where NSA has full access to any company whenever they need by the law, with no oversight. No backdoors are required.

I have already used that version of Windows, it is hot garbage.

The various UI inconsistencies, theres weird XP goop mixed with the modern UI.
I tried to make a new user account one time and it told me I couldnt because I needed to use another feature within Windows to do so, when I went to do so it told me I needed to either use the same feature that led me there (if I remember correctly). It was ridiculous.

Not to mention all the absurd telemetry. Everything you type into the start menu goes into a Microsoft backend. Everything, every time. Idk how people can have so much of their data constantly going to a Microsoft backend without being upset. Goes back all the way to Windows 8 or 10 btw.
I enjoy windows 10 hugely now that it is out of support. It became way better when microsoft started tormenting the users of win11 instead of win10, and now that windows update doesn't bring new catastrophes and unexpected reboot, the OS is finally not interfering with usage anymore.
You should try Windows 7, then. Boots in no time at all, feels EXTREMELY snappy, and nowadays, there are UEFI loaders and a thing called VxKex-NEXT which adds the few new API calls Windows 10 introduced and thus makes W7 run many W10-only apps.
