This is what I find the most surprising. I was under the impression that ChatGPT was still "research" and wouldn't be ready for prime time for a while. These rushed products that don't live anywhere near up to the hype seem like they will sour public opinion on it.

Bingo. Microsoft isn't likely to win the search battle against Google. However, they can (and seemingly already have) disrupted search as a go-to web destination/feature.
