In your country, perhaps. I am sick of this narrow American corporatist view that is unthinkingly applied to the whole world. Do you ever imagine how unnerving it would be, if 99% of all online discourse in your country took place on platforms owned by foreign corporations?

I’m replying to a comment that said, I quote, “but in the US there are free speech laws.”

Given that context, I thought it was clear I was talking about the nature of free speech laws in the USA.

I really wish people who downvoted this would explain. Like it or not, the first amendment does not apply to private companies. This conversation is not about what's fair, it's about the actual state of things. Shouldn't you be mad at the constitution and our founding fathers instead?

Do people lose data or lose proof of identity when they have had account(s) banned?

The biggest hurdle would be actually finding someone to talk to if the account gets banned.

It would have to be a major emergency to warrant that, food-wise. Under normal circumstances, no danger food.

Google is more like the store giving out free samples. It's not essential at all but it definitely has to be safe.

This is such a crucial point that so many people overlook, even when being cognizant of the risk of storing data on the cloud, somehow SSO integration is many tech-literate users' blind spot.

It feels wrong that we all call it "data" as some sort of replaceable tangible volume, when what it represents are context.

Google Drive is free. The individual in-question was not paying for the service. If you do pay for Google’s services via G Suite then you do get instant human support.

And furthermore, the more you use them for, the greater the likelihood of falling afoul of some ToS or bot.
