Yeah, TouchID only gets me in like 50% of the time, usually with 2-3 attempts. And yes, I've re-done the prints a couple times.

All these people posting about consistently unlocking it without looking seem like they're from a different universe.

truth, cost twice as much as S8 and I fail to see justification for double price - slightly smaller bezels top and bottom bezels (but huge bezel/frame all around), telephoto (OK, though pretty ueless) and inconvenient face id (overfingeprint)?

anything which cost more than S8 must have serious benefits over S8

the demo failure was because the phone had been rebooted, which requires a passcode. Certainly not ideal, but it's not a because faceID is a failure.

On stage it was stated you needed to be alert and looking at the device, as in eyes open. Sleeping is fine I'd guess :)

If you're worried about people living with you, I'd guess TouchID is already a huge issue.

Why are people comfortable carrying a $1000 piece of equipment that can be dropped or stolen in an instant in their pocket? My Nexus6p takes great pictures, runs everything smoothly, and I don't have to freak out as much if the $350 suddenly vanishes.

It's scary at first but I haven't lost or broken mine so far. Fingers crossed.

As far as this phone goes, I am really excited to see how it stacks up to the Galaxy S8. Face ID is incredibly enticing, but Samsung Pay is much more universal. I actually thought Tim Cook did a great job this time around. For the first time in a while, I got that "reality distortion field" feeling that I haven't had since Steve Jobs had been the presenter. I think these keynotes go a long way to sell the product. Admittedly, I haven't seen any of the leaks, so yeah I'm sure it's not as cool if you know what's coming, however I do remember from past leaks that they tend to leave out the narrative (just opting for raw features, photos, etc.) that don't really do justice to the product.

It wasn't the only reason I switched to a Pixel after 10 iPhone years, but it probably was what made the decision so easy.

My understanding was that there'd be a constrained supply of the OLEDs in particular, so this is priced to sell at lower volumes than the SE/6S/7/8.

But the funny thing is that this pricing will backfire and the scarcity of the X will move it into the Veblen zone.
