I didn't say I wanted to ban it, just that we could. Human beings have collectively regulated all kinds of maths, ideas, and ideologies. I am not a Luddite. I am saying that humans collectively have the power to control things for our benefit. Thankfully I've already passed on my genome :)

We actually do not regulate mathematics. In the United States, any such regulations would also expressly be unconstitutional under the First Amendment. AI is as much an idealogy as is using a computer, which is to say that it isn't. AI is for our benefit. You know what isn't for our benefit -- stupid jobs that even an automaton can do. We just have to pressure the government in the way I noted earlier, then use any f…

I am trying to understand how many of the students are complaining about AI when they themselves may have been using it a great deal. Because that seems hypocritical.

I can be pressured to use it at work to keep up with others who use it, while simultaneously knowing that it is eroding and devaluing my skills, and wishing that we could all stop using it together.

In what world do students need to use it for coursework to "keep up"?

I see no positive outcome for using it as a student where your whole existence is to learn the material yourself.

It's got a pretty clear thesis: this is a revolutionary technology of a kind that many of us thought impossible even within this last decade; and it hasn't been fully defined what its use…

I heard a clip of it and it wasn’t the words per se that were offputting but the tone of delivery.

I wonder how many of those booing used AI to write their term papers. From the teaching side, I hear AI has become an epidemic of students scamming their way into degrees.

Curious! https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/we-should-improve-society-som...
