Good article. I build and run a new(ish) blogging app (Pagecord - https://pagecord.com ) and I’m seeing all sorts of niche blogs pop up from cookery, photography, tech (of course!), gaming and science. Great to see blogging making a resurgence - RSS next!

There's a typo on your home page: "You focus on writing, we handle trhe rest."

I don't know about being back, but it certainly isn't dead. A few years back, I used to get at least 10k readers a day. That number went down to less than 100 a day at it's lowest, I was writing 10 entries a year at most. Last year, I wrote just 4. One thing I failed to notice was that RSS was still active. So this year, I started consistently contributing, over 150 so far, and I see RSS picking up right where it lef…

Wow. A few questions: - I recently added RSS to my blog. The URL works but I don't advertise it with the icon. Should I? - What do you use to track traffic?

Do you also have something like in your element?

Things like this let me just throw homepages (or blog pages) at feed readers and they can discover all the different feeds available and I can pick one (although you really don't need more than one, generally).

Out of curiosity, I see my website not being well indexed and I wondered whether it is because I include ``` User-agent: * Disallow: / ``` in my robots.txt. What should one add to allow Marginalia to crawl their website?

This should work User-agent: search.marginalia.nu Allow: /

Thank you! I just added it :)

The future certainly does look bleak. I think not giving up on normal human expression, connection, and creativity is a good way to combat that.

You have more hope than I do. I view this as futile. I am more and more convinced the only way to combat this capitalist, AI-fueled dystopia being pushed on us is with violence, and I think that is the absolute worse possible thing I'm not calling for revolution. I don't want violence. I just don't see any real way forward for humanity in a post AI world. I think this is one of the worst things that we could have eve…

We cannot coordinate large scale positive change without connecting genuinely with each other.

I don’t think violence is necessary. The common people have access to many levers of power, we only need to overcome lack of coordination and awareness.

But violence is an important part of our history. It is human nature and it serves a purpose. I won’t shy away from it.
