The vast majority of the money goes to middlemen, rights holders, investors, executives and other suited up parasites. If you want artists to make a living, you need to end shareholder capitalism, not reinforce it.
You don't get to choose how a particular movie was funded and who agreed to pay who in exchange for what.

I don't see how copyright relates to my (or anyone's) character. You can be a good or bad person who copies files, and you can also be a good or bad person who doesn't.
