There were no suitable cases for the Z Fold 4 and other foldable phones (other than the one ugly Spigen case that adds one inch of extra width) that would allow me to enable good protection.

If this was around the 1200 price point they'd be selling like crazy. Chewing into the premium android and iPhone share. Google would have been a trend setter with foldables if they offered a lower price.

I just don't understand who wants these foldable phones, especially at the $1799 price point. I guess a use case is wealthy frequent travelers who don't want a separate device with a larger screen to watch movies/videos on the go? Someone help me out here.
Besides, if this lasts at least 4 years then the amortised price is more reasonable.

Really looking forward to future generations of foldables when the price is closer to $1000 than $2000. I've had my Flip 3 for almost 2 years now and it's been a blast; I'm genuinely interested in the larger foldable size, but the price is still too steep for me.
Yeah - I understand the technology is complex, but if you think about it you can buy a iPhone 14 Pro and an iPad Pro 11” for the same price as a single foldable. With a foldable phone, I just unfold it. The convenience leads to using it more and that's a big advantage.
Right now the crease/reliability is a worry, but assuming that is resolved I'd pay $1800 for it.

They're hoping to sell to you based on the value it provides rather than the cost to produce the thing. Classic sales reframing tactic for obscene 500%+ margin products: You should buy this thing far above market rate because it's worth a lot to you, not because it's priced at a realistic BOM + labor + reasonable profit margin.
How is this phone far above market rate? Which competing products with equivalent functionality are far below it?
