There's a separate bug that completely corrupts the mail database on compaction, making Thunderbird lock up including for every future launch. I've been using it to close to 20 years with multiple accounts and it was rock-solid. I wouldn't extrapolate from anecdata, in either direction. But we should not spread FUD. If you can link to the bug I'd be interested, otherwise it doesn't add much value to claim this.

There are lots of bugs and the person you're responding to might have a different one in mind, but this is the classic, ancient unresolved bug:

Although in recent years it looks like it turned from a bug about one specific (never resolved) issue to a more general troubleshooting session related to data loss issues.

What would get you to switch from Fastmail?

JMAP is a bonus (other fastmail user here) bjt if I can do custom sieve rules and or unlimited aliases created on demand at (somestring)@customdomainiown.com thst I can then use the sieve rules to put into a folder of the same name as that email address, I would rather give my money to support Thunderbird. Fastmail is fine and all but they are in australia so they live on spyware island and they dont have good native clients in the works like thunderbird does.

And just the fact that they've ensured that k9mail is still maintained seems like an objective win, even if it's now called Thunderbird. It's just a matter of time. Personally I'd rather see k9 not maintained - it works perfectly well and has for ages - than see it ruined by mozilla like everything else.

k9mail's developer called it a day, so this is still strictly the better outcome. If you want an unmaintained version, why not just install the old version?

Gmail has ads inline that are hard to distinguish from real emails. What kind of self-respecting person uses that when they have the technical knowhow to spend time on hackernews (i.e. options)?

I have to say that I am blissfully unaware of them, perhaps due to ublock?

That's Mozilla-wide and includes the Mozilla Corporation and other entities. We have 2023-2024 reporting via these two links: https://stats.thunderbird.net/#financials https://blog.thunderbird.net/2024/10/thunderbird-annual-repo... We need to update the ratio for 2025, but it shouldn't be dramatically different.

Just to be clear, you're asking for Thunderbird to track all of its users and link them to the dates of payment, payment amounts and payment methods of all of its donors on all of their platforms so that you don't see a pop up once or twice a year? Is that correct?

I'm not being snarky here, but AFAICT you really didn't think that through.

How about a local option being able to opt out of fundraising popups instead? No tracking required. Perhaps you might file a feature request for either of the above?
