Sorry I nuked my comment after realizing it was in the wrong article but I wanted to say I appreciate the response. I’m a decent writer (which is why I think I should probably get around to applying to 0xide) but finding time to blog with a full time job and a kid is hard. Not that that’s an excuse.

It’s possible that I misread it, since I don’t understand the accusation of anti-intellectualism. Isn’t it rather pro-intellectual to found universities like that of Bologna in 1088 and pour massive amounts of resources into research to ensure we eventually get to the level of obstetric medicine that we have? And isn’t it on the contrary intellectually lazy to throw your hands up and declare life to be disposable sim…

If I'm following you, I should state that I don't see anything anti-intellectual in Christianity as a concept or in practice. The anti-intellectualism I was referring to is specifically regarding the idea that the bible proscribes abortion, solely because the train of thought is anachronistic.

OK, say you're a bank. The SEC does not care what you do and is actively working to make sure nobody else does either. You never get fines and all the traders are whatsapping about deals and it's awesome. But what if the FEC decides to care in the future? Just mark all your messages as self-deleting. But what if you want to be able to read them in the future?

And then the Smarsh (owners of Telemessage) salesman calls you, and says "your users can keep using the apps they love - WhatsApp, Signal - but we archive the self-deleting messages somewhere you can hide from the SEC if they happen to change their mind". And everyone loves it (you already fired all the Security or Legal teams).
