What functional, diplomatic purpose exists for calling him a "bozo"? What problems does this solve? Which tensions does this ease? Which conflicts does this stop? What sensitive government data does this un-leak? Which broken laws does this adjudicate? What usurped power is being brought back under control with this? Or is it just contributing to a one-way ratchet that only ever increases partisan polarization and ho…

What makes you think that problems will be solved by de-escalation?

I think the path to solving problems doesn't start out by deliberately and intentionally trying to derail what otherwise has the potential to be a mutually respectful dialogue.

There's no guarantee a mutually respectful dialogue solves the problem, but it sure doesn't hurt to try that instead of starting out with dehumanizing the other party in a social conflict as the opening move.

The argument I could see is that even the least king has certain privileges that no tycoon in a democratic state offers. The obvious example I could see is just the concept of legal immunity. There's no need to deluge your critics with lawyers when the courts will simply refuse to take up objections to His Majesty. It would also presumably make an excellent "flag of convenience" for your other wealth assets- create a…

That system only works so long as you are prepared to be completely self-reliant, which is fine for a largely agrarian society. But at some point, technological complexity requires continued reliance on outside groups or you don't progress or even maintain. Consider a scenario - the US falls into some weird anarcho-libertarian dystopia. This works fine for a while, but no one is making new computers or new cars or ne…

Maybe we're over-thinking with the monarch mindset. This also smacks of businessman "next quarter myopia" being applied to an unusually large stage.

The domestic slash-and-burn, the foreign policy tarriff chicken, even the minerals deal with Ukraine-- they all take the form of "you can book some great numbers for the next quarter. All it costs you is pesky stuff like 'long-term viability' and 'leadership positions', and those are only a problem for Future You, and who cares about him anyway?

We've basically become Hewlett-Packard as a country.

It may hurt if the only way to solve problems is to take away power from bad actors. In a democracy, one can only do that by winning voters. In 2025, it turns out that voters respond positively to strongmen who do indeed begin their conversations by derailing, dehumanizing, and attacking their opponents.

So, if you want to win in the court of public opinion, maybe go for the throat in Round 1. Sadly, respectful dialogue is not en vogue.

This is nonsense. If infrastructure locations are not classified then every potential malicious actor already knows them.

He is saying the malicious actor is doge itself, if I understood what is being said by the previous comment. Which is the idea behind which I posted the news here on hn

The problem is, compiling the list like he has, and being on the DOGE team, makes it all very, very suspicious. And it is sensitive data - even if it is open. Those are important infrastructure locations.

> And it is sensitive data - even if it is open. This is literally contradictory. Data does not become sensitive because some random on HN says so. You are speaking with authority but have no idea what you are talking about.

> This is literally contradictory.

Why is it contradictory? It could be sensitive and unsecured. Sensitive doesn't mean 'classified'.

> You are speaking with authority but have no idea what you are talking about.

What do you know about the GP?

A surprisingly large amount of data one might think is classified is not at all. In this case all the examples listed are from freely available public data outside of the Twitter thing which seems to be just setting up the environment for some local tool. Here are the sites: --- datacatalog.worldbank.org opendata.arcgis.com mrdata.usgs.gov / www.usgs.gov --- Sharing things like this isn't very useful because it just…

Usually: actually a third world is real. As constructed in your narrative there is a difference in the deltas between the two worlds and the third (i.e. one is more real).

In fact things are worse for them today. In Versai it was the norm for the king to take a dump in a bucket in front of the whole court. Today's billionaires have to pay people to watch them do it and have to keep it hush hush.

Then they're idiots, because in today's society, it's not difficult to find someone who will absolutely enjoy watching you take a dump. The problem is finding someone who's not going to enjoy it so much it becomes uncomfortable.

The comparison breaks down on the other side also. It's not like the average court was just in thrall to the king, much of what they did was for access to wealth and power.

We must be polite to them as they spit in our faces UwU

Actions the GOP is allowing right now have real downsides that inflict real harms on real victims. I am frustrated at them and I wish they would stop, but I recognize that insulting them and calling them names is only going to encourage them to be even less charitable in return. We haven’t had a left or progressive administration in a very long time. Please lay out the harms you perceive though. Anyways I have no sympathy for fascists and I am a Marxist so we probably won’t see eye to eye. Fascists aren’t people.

Going through your past posts it seems you may be referring to warrantless wiretapping, which I’ve been railing about for ages. Of course the groundwork was laid by Bush’s PATRIOT act, but absolutely the DNC is extremely corrupt and many democrat leaders have done awful things. I’m not a democrat or a neoliberal and the DNC is very far from a left wing or progressive party. But none of that changes the fact that we’re currently in the midst of a fascist coup, and your whataboutism comes across as fascist apologia.

You seem to make the mistake I see a lot of online rational tech people make, which is to assume that the DNC represents leftism, and to then associate all the evils of the DNC with “the left”. Read some actual left-wing theory like Kropotkin dude. The DNC is a deeply compromised center-right neoliberal party, as anyone on the actual left will be quick to tell you.

You seem to be of the opinion that Trump won the election because of his mannerisms and character, as opposed to the fact that the only alternative was someone that not a single person voted for in a Dem primary election for the 2024 general election.

Aren't we supposed to be allowed to vote in a democracy?

> Sharing things like this isn't very useful because it just causes further divides. I gave up trying to gentle parent other adults a long time ago. Newsrooms themselves have no fear publishing disingenuous and polarizing content.

If by that you mean newsrooms are happy to publish stories full of the disingenuous sayings and doings of those who hope to benefit from polarization and chaos, I agree.
