For people in and around Paris right now the #PorteOuverte hash tag is being used to help shelter those who cannot make it home safely.
This #PorteOuverte hashtag thing would be cool, if there weren’t a million people talking about how awesome the hashtag is, drowning out the ones actually offering shelter. I browsed through 20 pages of tweets with the hashtag, and only one out of hundreds was actually a Parisian looking for shelter, and none were people offering shelter. Most were talking about how great the hashtag is—inadvertently destroying its u…

#372Right... Well while you live in that Utopia of yours, large groups of Sunni fanatics are currently commuting genocide against non Sunni. How much % of Muslims should think killing apostates is okay until you deem it incompatible with France liberal policies. It's because of dhimmis like you that Le Pen is winning. Wake up and smell your ashes. Edit: someone really needs to look up what Dhimmi means before they actual…

Twitter could destroy any accounts that belong to or sympathise with organisations like ISIS. Why do they allow those cretins to have a voice?
This is exactly the kind of reaction that makes terrorists attacks dangerous to society. Obviously ISIS is past the point of laissez-faire tolerance but that isn't the point, ideological censorship should always be a last resort.

#374The _reality_ is that certain religion somehow is different, for that religion a well-educated youth could easily become a cold-blood terrorist after watching some youtube videos and read a few propaganda booklets, throw everything away he previously learnt in the west, the place where he was raised, and use what he learnt to attack from within. That change is usually drastic, maybe that's why we call them extremist. It's very different from other massive killers that are having mental issues.
Everything in the universe is ruled by probability, there are hundreds of religions on earth but the integration of this group is just statistically unpredictable with much higher risk. It's not worth integrating in my opinion.
I foresee Europe will suffer from it for years to come.

#375Disappointed to see the comments downplaying the situation because as many people get killed in car accidents every week or whatever. Terrorist acts damage the social fabric far beyond the death toll. That's the whole point of terrorism.

The tech useful for preventing these situations is exactly the kind that's frowned upon in civil liberties circles.
surveillance is not a solution to the problem it merely suppresses it. Treating symptoms is never as useful as treating the underlying cause.

And that's your argument? Negative correlation based on your own incredulity? The terrorists themselves claim a religious muslim tradition. The best you have is that they're brainwashed victims, because, well, there's lots of other muslims who don't become terrorists? You have no basic reasoning capabilities yourself. At least the poster you were responding to had a correlation. You have nothing.
All terrorists are humans. That's a correlation just like all terrorists are Muslims. Maybe you should continue narrowing it down to a more specific cause/group instead of spreading this hatred against Muslims in general.

I think you underestimate the impact this type of terrorism has. The real massive danger is constantly trying to downplay it. The simple fact is, when facing an irrational enemy the last thing you can do is try to shift the blame to those who react.
The enemy is not irrational. The moment you understand that, you'll understand why fear is not the answer.

#379As a muslim lurker of this amazing site I would like to express my sympathy to those who died and hope everyone will be safe. Also, those with comments that are trying to cause fear and hatred, you are just making other muslims living in the west feel scared and sad. I swear, right now im scared taht one day some people will be treating muslims just like how Americans used to treat black people in Slavery era. Even w…
I just can't imagine how you can be intelligent enough to come and read up about all the beauty of technology, and still be a follower of such a primitive religion. Any religion, but Muslim religion especially.
That being said, I feel its the contrary, e.g: When Churches used to kill scientists in the west, Muslims were in their golden era*. But after WW I everything went downhill because of wars.
