For anyone who uses GPT-5.5/Codex as their daily driver, how does GLM-5.2/ZCode compare, esp in a codebase already set up for agentic coding?

GLM 5.2 is in an uncanny valley where it's too big to run at home, too expensive and slow in comparison to similarly capable model (a good chart here - https://deepswe.datacurve.ai/ ), and that's just comparing API prices. When looking at subscription offering by Anthropic and OpenAI, it's not even comparable, as a Codex $200 subscription can easily use a billion tokens per week on GPT 5.5 high/xhigh. It's an interes…

Sonnet 5 is crazy expensive for the results it gets on higher reasonings, wow.

Does anyone use an agnostic TUI or harness for development tasks that can fairly seamlessly switch between providers? I'm wanting local context in the spirit of "here are 3 AI providers available, for coding tasks use this one... and for writing prose use this one... and for generating images use this one..." etc.

You can use Aivo with Claude Code. But… if you want freedom, I’m finding Pi to be frankly amazing. I detested OpenCode.

Pi with some of the top plugins and hashline edits is very good. I stopped using MCPs because of their post about it, and instead rely on better command line tools.

Get the OpenCode Go subscription, add the plugin to enable Go’s caching, and my god, you’ve got nearly unlimited M3 calls. It’s not Opus-level quality, but that’s why you plan and review with better models. Open Router is also a good pairing for Pi.

To your specific request: sounds like you want custom agents :) That’s really easy to build in Pi, just ask it. My planning agent is basically a sub-agent-driven workflow that GLM orchestrates. You can have specific agents run specific models for specific tasks.

The US government is no saint in terms of mass surveillance but there is a gigantic gulf between US governments mass surveillance and China, I think to act otherwise is a bit disingenuous.

Sorry I cant take anyone who keeps a straight face while suggesting one is worse than the other. At that point it is not disingenuous, its brain washed.

I'm not being intentionally disingenuous my model of the situation is the US does mass surveillance and China does it at a much larger scale with much less restrictions. For example, China and the US have roughly the same amount of cameras per capita... but the Chinese government generally owns all the cameras and can query across them while as far as I know it is relatively hard for US gov to get access to public cameras.

Could you point me towards something that corrects me where I'm wrong i.e. not that they both don't do it but that they are doing mass surveillance at similar scales?

At this point i think the china mass surveillance was propaganda while the USA one is for real.

Could you flesh this out more? The Chinese surveillance state is pretty well documented by academics [1] I'd be curious to see what makes you think that is fake news or whatever.

It's interesting how you would say this about China but not about the US, especially given what's happened recently with Anthropic and the US govt. Do you really think the US government doesn't get access or couldn't get access to any of your chats with Claude?

Hmm yeah I really think that the US government doesn’t have access to my Claude chats and wouldn’t be able to without jumping through actual legal hoops like a subpoena or other legal order. More than happy to be wrong if you have a source that points in that direction.

Lol, one phone call and they give them everything because they don't want to be regulated.

"US intelligence has killed and ruined the lives of far more people than China has" - please provide a strong argument for this statement, with numbers and sources. I'm no apologist for the US Intelligence and related organizations (not by a very long shot), but that is a very extreme statement to make.

How many Russians, Palestinians, Afghanis, Libyan, Sudanrse, Somalian, Syrians, Iranians and Yemenis people do you think US intelligence has contributed to killing over the last decade? Or are those not people to you? China doesn't go around the world using it's military to force it's will upon people. Every decision the US military, or State Department makes is a product of US intelligence The foundation of US Intel…

First off, you're arguing with someone who mostly is in agreement with you.

"please provide a strong argument for this statement, with numbers and sources" - I see you provided me none of what I asked for.

"Or are those not people to you?" - can't you read? Why pull in this kind of derogatory bullshit.

Again, I'm no apologist - far from it - for the crimes of the USA's hegemonic foreign policy and meddling in other country's affairs. But I specifically asked for numbers here. Even including the various conflicts you mentioned - not to mention Vietnam, Cambodia, most of Central and South America - you must have an upper bound for that number.

But you don't seem to mention anything about the actual reality of the CCP and its horrendous toll on human life - mostly to its own citizens. The OP was saying the USA has killed far more than China. That is stupendously, outrageously wrong - Mau is responsible for far more deaths than even the wildest accounting of US atrocities.

"China doesn't go around the world using it's military to force it's will upon people" - it literally has secret police stations in the USA and Canada where they punish Chinese abroad that have disobeyed dictates. WTF are you on about?

"The US is the 4th Reich and the most evil government to ever exist" - for Christ sake. Yes, there is a tremendous amount of really shady shit in the USA's (recent) history, but 4th Reich? Most evil government?? If you really believe that then I'm wasting my time here with someone who's brain is broken.

Ahh, looking at your history of 1-liner comments it's clear you're mostly into low effort trolling. And your comment is so outside the bounds of reason that I must presume you're either wildly uninformed or acting in bad faith.

I would agree I cannot bear to use the TUI and I find myself in the terminal quite often. The value is good on the $10 plan so I still get decent usage on the desktop client but I would prefer a better terminal interface.

You can use the opencode subscription plan with other agents if you wish. They allow it

I have used it in gh copilot to some success, before the pricing changes. Thanks for the reminder.

You know what's happening in Cuba right now?

You know what happened in China in this past century?

If distillation is stealing, then so is generating code using an ai model. It’s the same thing: prompt a model, use the output to make software. Not to mention, claude and gpt only exist because of massive ip theft in the first place.

yeah, sure, laws are just pointless things. Lets move to caves and if I kill you first , i'm right, if not i lost. THat's your logic. there is ToS, and every single person who is doing distillation knows it's illegal. Also on IP theft. There were several courts, in different countries they limit certain knowledge bases and thats it. so that entire claim is baseless. Again this is the difference. A major book publishe…

ToS violations aren’t really the kind of laws I give a shit about.

or more likely, sending it to the CCP

Californian Communist Party?

Chinese Communist party? it would be funny if China didn't have laws related to companies in China exfiltrating foreign data and giving it to the government for espionage purposes, z.ai is a chinese company, based in the capital Beijing. The likelihood that they work with the government hand in glove is pretty high. I wouldn't run that binary on any machine I was doing anything serious with. If you ran it on a corporate network, I would hope security escorts you out of the building.
