DefenseStorm | Seattle, WA | DevOps Engineer/SRE, Full Stack Engineer | Full-time | REMOTE or ONSITE https://www.defensestorm.com DefenseStorm is a cybersecurity startup that helps banks and other financial institutions manage the deluge of security data that they produce. We take all of the security critical information and then alert on what's important, generate reports, show cool dashboards, and simplify demonstrating compliance to their regulators and auditors.

I got my job here through an HN Who's Hiring post 5 years ago, and I love working here. Strong engineering culture - weekly hour 'topic sync' to share knowledge, minimal meetings, flexible hours/wfh, happy customers that give good feedback, and interesting problems to solve. Our engineering team has been fully remote for COVID and we are conducting interviews remotely, but we are just now starting to open up the office for those who are vaccinated and wish to come in.

For Full stack engineers, we use Angular, Typescript, Java 11, PostgreSQL, Elasticsearch, and we're built on AWS. Our interview loop is one or two ~1-hour phone screenings, followed by a ~4 hours video call - and we've designed it to approximate realistic day-to-day coding and code review (no algorithm riddles).

Plasmic (https://www.plasmic.app) is a visual page/frontend builder that integrates with real-world production codebases.

We are an early-stage startup with a tiny but wonderful distributed team of 8 from Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Dropbox, MIT, Berkeley, including 3 ex-founders with exits and 4 ICPC world finalists. We received outlier funding offers from a number of top VCs like NEA and investors in Figma/Framer.

We have paying customers including a Fortune 500. But it’s still early and we have many challenges ahead!

Plasmic itself is a sprawling application with complex state and interactions, where users can spend hours per session. We face many deep engineering challenges, such as:

- building a robust, performant, and feature-packed design tool on the web

- enabling existing code components to be seamlessly used in the editor

- optimizing for latency in all interactions, even when scaling to large projects

- translating free-form vector graphics from tools like Figma/XD to web standards

- handling dynamic data in the visual editor

We’re looking for one more generalist software engineer to join as a member of the formative team. You would be directly shaping the product and its future direction. You don’t need to be specialized in frontend; more important to us are software engineering foundations and experience.
