"Smart" and "decent" are desirable qualities, but it is questionable whether or not they can provide a better life for a woman than wealth. It's really weird to redefine buying the phone OS used by 80% of the planet and 55% of the US uses as a willfully suspicious act. It's not about how many people you have time to date its picking a deliberately substandard algorithm when there are seventeen more readily at hand. Which doesn't at all prove that its a good strategy. A moderately attractive female that is reasonable well put together has sufficient options that she could probably concoct an absurd strategy filtering by hair color and astrology and still do extremely well. This wouldn't prove that astrology is a great way to date. It proves that if you start far enough ahead of the game you can run the race by hopping on one foot.

...which suggests that the notion that some designer at Apple subtly decreased the contrast on green bubbles to make them look "gross" is ridiculous -- if they really wanted to make SMS messages look bad, they could be much less subtle about it...

Google offered several times to work with Apple to get full compatibility with their messages. Apple refused every time. This is Apple's deliberate choice.
