It was an explanation by a Native American Indian who I think was a non-Iroquois as this was in Florida. We were discussing Indian (he used that term) names, specifically the fact they nobody living remembers the meaning of the name Miami (for the river).

Gotcha, well, that hypothetical can always be pushed back one further in the chain of origin, since it's just sheer speculation :)

So India gets the praise and the British Empire gets the blame? And how about Since '47? Are you taking the same critical approach?

Every great regime will experience crisis. But you have to ask yourself -- where would I have been otherwise?

Indians are still clamoring to get into this supposedly genocidal regime.

He actually lives in Clarence House (when in London), Buckingham Palace is currently only used for official business, parties etc. Arguably, Buckingham Palace should be turned into a museum (like several other former royal residences, e.g. Tower of London, Kew Palace).

Well I guess so but Buckingham Palace is not so far away from Clearance House. So I brush it off as a technicality.

Once I was in London I saw Harry and William being ferried to the Clearance House while I was walking The Mall.

if you're reading a story and there's a harmless & innocent victim and an evil , brutal and insensitive oppressor then your script was written by communists.

I was listening to Dominic Sandbrook the other day (from "The Rest is History" podcast). His point was that if you had to pick any empire through history to live in (without knowing your place in it - a sort of Rawlsian Veil), you would probably pick the British Empire. It wasn't perfect, but more benevolent than a lot of other empires.

I would choose the Byzantine Empire but I'm biased. But you can tell based on my romanticizing , British Empire gets the silver.
