I have a 32 inch 4k. Its good but even that feels a little big some time. I have a 55 at work and its just silly.
I have a 28" 4K 144hz monitor since two years now, its been great.

I had a similar experience with Dell after they wanted the price of a new laptop for a replacement laptop battery. This was for the Dell Studio back when battery packs were made to be swappable by simply sliding a latch. After that phone call to customer support, I made a similar vow to never buy another Dell product. These days, I use a Framework laptop.
You couldn't buy something from eBay or TaoBao/Alibaba?

I wish deep desks were more common! Modern ultrawide curved monitors sit way too close for comfort for me due to the way their legs have to be angled further back for center of gravity. custom desks end up being so expensive.
Any good deep desks that you've found so far?
How about the (in)famous Amazon Door Desk? They used to build desks for their offices from a door.

I don't know many Linux users doing 4k+ at 144hz. I am wondering if you do any screen capture or desktop recording, and if so what software you use and what your experience is like? I cannot reliably capture 4k/144hz with my setup but my desktop environment is still on X11. I tried KDE/Wayland and had a better experience, but run into other bugs based on their integration. Just curious how your experience with sway h…
Except for gaming, is there any practical use for refresh above 60Hz?

FWIW, it was the same (even at the enterprise level).
We had a commodity (local cloud) computing Dell infra in the mid 2010s and were constantly replacing/returning “simple stuff” (fans, support flanges, memory, NICs).
“Dude, you’re gettn’ a Dell” became—-nope, never again.

Just don't let Bezos attach the legs .. by all accounts he was a shitty carpenter at best and the wobble factor was high.
Nothing wrong with doors as desk, just get the framing solid.

Half inch thick solid kiln dried door sized jarrah hardwood is even better .. but that's likely not to hand for most and expensive to order if not.

Most likely brightness. Turn the brightness to the maximum value and power will go up a lot.

I didn't smell anything. A 200W PSU isn't terribly expensive and being cheaper than more efficient processors seems reasonable. I also only run a single 4k monitor so haven't thought about driving 4x the pixels recently.

Common sense would rule out an 8K TV requiring as much power as an entire gaming GPU just to move pixels from the HDMI port to the panel.
Maybe these TVs are using salvaged Pentium4 CPUs...
