Well, it is wrong to disparage someone that is innocent until proven otherwise. Even if you disagree with them and think they are a snake-oil salesman.
That does not mean you should not hear someone out. As far as I am aware Annie said Sam and their brother molested her as a kid. He claims otherwise, and deflects with “she is a drug addict” (heavily paraphrasing here). Lots of talk of how her trust was broken, and it is impossible to get justice against someone so rich and powerful, etc. where sama’s camp claim it is a money grab and there is zero proof. A sticky wicket.
Now, whether all these “new” revelations (honestly never thought Sam was honest) help support her claims is up to you. Just wanted to add some context for those unaware. Not accusing anyone.

5. Sam Altman
I was told I shouldn't mention founders of YC-funded companies in this list. But Sam Altman can't be stopped by such flimsy rules. If he wants to be on this list, he's going to be.
Honestly, Sam is, along with Steve Jobs, the founder I refer to most when I'm advising startups. On questions of design, I ask "What would Steve do?" but on questions of strategy or ambition I ask "What would Sama do?"
What I learned from meeting Sama is that the doctrine of the elect applies to startups. It applies way less than most people think: startup investing does not consist of trying to pick winners the way you might in a horse race. But there are a few people with such force of will that they're going to get whatever they want.

#344They could have been cool. They could have been 2001 Google. They could have been the number one place any new PhD wanted to work. But no. The MBAs saw dollar signs, and everything went out the window. They fumbled the early mover advantage, and will be hollowed out by the competition and commodified by the PaaS giants. What a shame.
It’s not just the MBAs that saw dollar signs. A lot of the engineers and researchers did, too.

Semi off-topic, but the trend of AI influencers adopting the all-lowercase communication style in professional conversation has been very annoying. It makes them appear completely unserious. I recently received an job recruitment email for an AI role in all-lowercase and I was baffled how to interpret it.
I don’t think it’s only AI influencers that do this. I’ve noticed people use lowercase as some sort of power move. Like they’re so busy and important they don’t care about conventions.
Something similar I've noticed--there's a certain level people reach within a company where they're now too busy to type out "thank you" or even "thanks." Now "thx" is all they have time for.

If it's non-enforceable, but you signed it, wouldn't that make the contract void? I suppose there's probably a bunch of legalese to prevent that though...
There is usually a severability clause that basically says if a clause is illegal it voids that clause not the whole contract… this is pretty standard practice.
I think I've seen that in every contract I've ever signed.

While true, it doesn't mean they were offering a better alternative.
Well appropriately enough it was an AI movie that taught as a valuable lesson, namely that sometimes the only correct move is not to play.
It's such an insidious idea that we ought to accept that you can just give up your promises you explicitly made once those rules get into your way of doing exactly what they were supposed to prevent. That's not anyone else's problem, that was the point! The people that can't do that are supposed to align AI? They can't align themselves

#349Why anyone trusts Altman or OpenAI with something as societally consequential as AI is beyond me.
I've reached the point where I wouldn't trust Altman with anything more consequential than a lemonade stand.
The thing is, he didn't ask you. He put himself into a position where anyone not giving him money would feel they're missing out. It's very unfortunate that he managed to pull it off.

Actually they probably are that busy and aren’t trying to impress students, they’re trying to grade a bunch of exams while reviewing a paper while writing up research while writing a grant and also having a personal life.
And if they treat them all with this degree of attention, then they're probably failing at all of them.
