I like that they do their thing, but I'd be happier if there was a harness that could be tweaked, trivially, to do what their custom harness does. E.g. would this have been possible to do within Pi, as an extension? Then I could just "pi install mimo" and get the same results. I guess it would be more work on their part, to make sure it doesn't regress when something changes in pi itself.

Things have improved a lot since last month. Now their cheapest plan gives you 4.1B credits and I think the cache situation has improved too.
The cache situation has definitely improved. Not as good as DeepSeeks, but no longer totally broken.
The 4.1 Gazillion credits is disingenuous.
It takes 200!!! hyper-inflation credits for ONE single token of uncached input.
Xiaomi had an issue, and instead of owning it, they covered it up with "look, now you get ALL THE (near worthless) CREDITS!!!!

Yes the subscription plan costs literally the same thing as just paying API-per-token pricing.
My read of reddit is you need to use 90%-ish of your plan to actually be better of using the plan

Well, chromium the web engine is open source but it is still hard to craft a web engine with equal level of performance and other metrics, even with a team of talents.
Besides that, what you say may be true from the google's perspective. From a user(which I am) perspective, Google and Microsoft and other big corps have proven again and again with their actions that they cannot be trusted, just refer to https://www.gnu.org/proprietary/proprietary.html.

Claude Code TUI is garbage. There's nothing worth protecting in there.
Honest question: what's garbage in that tool? I like that I can pair it with whatever editor I am using even if for 99% of the time I run it from inside emacs. I usually chat in the Claude window and it edits my files. I can also write a comment in the code, press a key and emacs will tell Claude to implement that comment. Simple needs, simple tool.
CC TUI is often a culprit of memory leaks, image-pasting is a nightmare, particularly over SSH, flickering all over the UI, among others.
