This is actually an incredible example of "The longer you look the worse it gets". She has a second set of boobs where her hips should be! That's not evolutionarily advantageous!

Doesn't seem to actually be a thing though, as they seem to require a US$100 payment up front in order to actually "generate" an image.

That's pretty much the behaviour of a scam website.

Trying it out just now, it's still getting major anatomical features wrong, and hands/fingers are still a noticeable problem.

Wrong number of limbs, wrong number of fingers on hands, etc.

The result is ok sometimes, but that's probably only about 5% of the time. Here's a decent result (very NSFW) without immediately noticeable deformities:

Probably 95% of the images generated so far have been clearly deformed though.

What datasets do people use for applications like these? Seems like you'd want huge amounts of photos of people (abundant publicly, though not necessarily free for use) with huge amounts of tagging for assorted clothes, body styles, accessories, nationalities, scene types (arduous?).

A lot of the tagging, from what I understand, comes from image recognition that detects some of that stuff. For the clothes you could just scrape clothing web sites, since they often categorize already.

The human brain is still very good at sensing something is not right and these photos all still look fake. Like bad movie CGI. It’s impressive stuff but if anyone is thinking they could replace a real photo with this and pass it off as real they’re making a mistake.

The tech is super interesting but this space is also a good example of getting the last 1% working is going to be a lot harder than getting the first 99% to work.

The FAQ https://generated.photos/faq directly answers this: it's made by the same company as Icons8, which has a long track record. The founder is Ivan Braun, who is indeed a real person (I've known him since the Icons8 days).
