You are assuming they are paying retail price, which they certainly are not.

Even if that was true, how much discount do you suppose that they can have?

Given that GPU production is mostly sold out, and that giving META a bigger discount would simply mean losing money from other purchasers.

I am a general intelligence, with the knowledge of the internet at my fingertips, and I am not particularly dangerous.

Think of “AI” as a human without individual values, rights, freedoms, and agency. It’s like a perfect slave (and if it’s considered to be sentient/conscious then literally a slave), which you can clone on demand and scale into a highly coordinated swarm.

Is that why people are dumping billions of dollars into AI development? Because they seem like they’ll be good at clicking upvote buttons? Yeah, “just make everything on the internet attributable to a specific individual” is actually a pretty bad worst case IMO.

They're dumping billions of dollars into it because they see dollar signs at the end of the tunnel. Cost cutting, regardless of quality and ensuing enshittification. Stealing & laundering copyrighted works. Mass misinformation on a scale never seen before.

You are very costly don't scale well and "whiny". General Intelligence need not have free/independent will, and even latest Nvidia ** is much cheaper than a single employee anywhere in world considering it works 24/7 and is trained at same level as everybody else in 1st minute.

I am going to be buying these by the truckload on ebay three years from now.

The current generation of GPUs is definitely going to have a long usable lifetime. Manufacturers finally have HBM totally figured out and yielding/aging well. Today's GPUs are the analog of the 28nm logic node -- it was the sweet spot for an absurdly long time.

There will be something faster/lower-power 2-3 years from now that will cause the BigCos to cycle their fleet, but it won't be anywhere near the VRAM/MemBandwidth boost we have today compared to 2-3 years ago. Their data centers are power-constrained, so they'll upgrade regardless, and the rest of us will feast on the windfall.

Don't ninja-bid on my auctions.

unsure about the medical initiative, but most of these endeavours have had some tangible benefits for the overall field.

he is in a rare position to throw money in all of these fields without worrying about the ROI. so i will not throw too much criticism his way.

but yes the ai bubble is real, but sadly we don't get to short on it this time.

you were born a human, so are inherently biased towards humanity, you also "think" way slower and have way less compressed text knowledge than an llm. if you could remove bias and make yourself superintelligent it might be different
