I agree that some curation effort makes a huge difference. I have a "Queue" playlist into which I copy my "Discover Weekly" every now and then; then I listen to that Queue playlist, which lets me delete the tracks I don't want, and keep the ones I do (you can't modify your Discover Weekly).
