Please specify the country so we can know what country you're talking about, and what the name of the list you enrolled in is. You think scammers don't call you because you are on the opt-in no-call list? These are not good faith actors, they don't care you're on a list.

Never build a business around hassling other people. It's always at risk that laws will suddenly change and destroy your livelihood; because good leadership will realize that the best approach to handling you is to exclude you from the negotiating table and abruptly cut you off.

This might come as a surprise to some people, but no one likes having their phone turned into a device that makes them listen to a commercial at random times throughout the day.

This law is entirely meant for retirees with landlines (the only constituency that matters anyway in our gerontocracy.)

In a sense, it's good to have someone try to tackle an actual problem (I know it's a pain to have to pick up the phone several times a day because of telemarketer. Especially when you're retired and have nothing to do all day than calling friends and discuss how you're going to spend the money from millennials salaries, share buybacks by the employers of millennials, and rents from the kids of millenials who'll never get a house, a job, or a retirement ever.)

I suppose we'll have to wait a few decade for a government with a majority to pick up other small topics (climate change, debt wall, increasing inequalities, geopolitics, demographics, water shortages, draughts, food tension, and, oh, the general despair of the generation born after 2000.)

But, okay, fine, in the meantime, getting rid of unsolicited phone calls is still _something_.

It's a shame the law will not actually, hum, you knows, stop the unsolicited phone calls (they come from abroad and the callers could not care less), and so the retirees with a landline will not see a difference, and will do the natural thing, and vote for Trumpists even more than they expected to anyway.

At least we don't get political ads on the phone...

Might want to re-visit your day-to-day health routine if every time you're in contact with a doctor or hospital you're only getting bad news.

... why would my day-to-day involve calling a doctor or hospital if im healthy?

_they_ call _me_ with ideas on how to get me to pay them; when i go in, my vitals are strong

I can imagine quite a few scenarios in which I prefer for those companies to be able to reach me.

Isn't the usual case for physicians and dentists appointment reminders? (I don't understand why utility companies need to interrupt my day, so I ignore that.) I wouldn't mind them being able to actually reach me about urgent things via phone, but I keep a calendar like a grown adult and appointment reminders do nothing for me except interrupt my day.

What I mean, is that normally, people go to the doctor and hospital for a whole host of reasons, and if the doctor never says "actually, that's nothing to worry about" or "the test was negative" then either maybe you're not going to the doctor enough, or your overall health is so bad you never get "good news" from the doctor when you go there.

But then I remembered that most people here are Americans, and you (if you're American, I'm assuming here) don't go to the hospital/doctor just because, as it costs so much, compared to the life I'm used to, where whenever there is a health worry, you go to the doctor/hospital and they say "don't worry, it's fine" most of the time.

That just sounds like you don't actually have a "do not call" list, you have something that is trying to be a "do not call" list ;) Speak with your local politicians to fix the issues that bothers you. They don't listen, out on the streets and protest. Same way civilians communicate with their governments in every other democracy :)

It sounds like they could just block calls from Morocco and cut off much of the problem.

I don't get scam calls, period. I don't think I never gotten scam calls either, and I my personal phone number is findable on the internet + every single email I send, been for decades at this point.

Maybe 5-6 years ago and before that, I used to get a lot of sales and telemarketing phone calls though, both from foreign and local landline and mobile phone numbers. Once I was on the list, and started just saying the name of the list, the calls eventually died down and today, I don't get a single spam call.
