What is the difference between those scenarios and affiliate links? They are literally the same to me: kickbacks. And I agree they all are allowed, but should be disclosed. Why do you consider affiliate links an exception to that rule?

The difference is in the: 1. purpose of the mention. 2. Influence on the opinion.

Was it solely because the manufacturer gave sponsor money or was it because the writer is sharing his own personal opinions (and having affiliate links did not change the verdict)?

I don't see a problem people getting financially rewarded for helping people. Actually, I see as a positive. Nothing to be ashamed about, nothing to separately disclose.

In a similar vein as posting helpful videos on youtube/tiktok and not separately disclosing "when my content does well, I receive a cut from google/tiktok". Duuh.

I wanted to join the NAS club for so long but it was always either bang for buck for prebuilts ($1k for 4 bays, with 4Gb RAM and the CPU is slower than my previous phone?!) or lack of availability for 4+ SATA boards. Could you elaborate? Did your HDDs then wrote broken data? Do you use ZFS? I think that should have indicated some HDD issues independent of a counter by transferspeed or something like this. Not that the backplane was just not good in handling SAS?

What is Ryzen adding here towards the NAS part of this system? Or is it only for gaming?

Main benefit of Ryzen is that previously I was aiming for something like Atom or N300 for low power consumption - now, with Ryzen I have CPU with 10x computing power, powerful integrated GPU, that idles at 1W, and I can do serious gaming with it.

I won that lottery with 3x 26TB Exos shipped. I decided to try and get two more but they ended up being HAMR (returned). I don't know- apparently for many years the helium levels stay at 99%, if we extrapolate they will probably last for a few decades. So my concern over helium might be a bit too much
