Surely you don’t think economics is the only difference here. You could even more easily explain it with a lack of property protection in China or the population density along the east coast.

It's propping up the US economy and businesses mostly look at B2B signals. Keeping "demand" for AI high at e.g., Microsoft, keeps "demand" high on NVIDIA, CoreWeave, et al.

All of the boats are floating in the bathtub and nobody wants to be the one to pull the drain plug.

Gotta love the genius of creating a single point of failure out of a distributed (version control) system...

I’ve had the same thought about crypto. The anonymous p2p financial system where the only realistic way for the average person to participate is to send photocopies of government issued IDs to one of the few remaining large exchanges who will happily provide any government with your identity and a paper trail of your actions upon request.

I found the Copilot-generated commit message suggestions distracting when editing files from the web, so I made a uBlock Origin filter to block this feature:

They certainly realize when work is significantly accelerated. They might miss that it doesn't apply to all kinds of work equally, but they see some things go multiples faster, they see the folks behind those things using AI, and they draw conclusions.

Their view of work is roadmap chicanery tho
