A great machine to be sure for high end content creation but Apple is not chasing the deep learning dev market because of the lack of CUDA. That market is better served by Linux boxes with appropriate GPUs for TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc. support.

Nvidia is still better for games then AMD. Haven't seen the GPU which beats them.
Isn’t that only if you ignore price? If you only have a limited budget, then AMD will get you better performance. For absolute maximum performance at any cost AMD has nothing that can beat Nvidia though.

I live in Indonesia where there is no Apple store and where time for repair of an issue such as keyboard replacement is six weeks. This wasn’t an issue years ago because reliability wasn’t an issue. It is still not shipping so there's not really a reason not to use a Threadripper for lower price AND higher performance. Or even Epyc chips. We know the Titan Ridge Thunderbolt controllers work on AMD motherboards. Alpine Ridge had firmware problems but Titan Ridge is fine.

Exactly, and to me it’s a deal breaker. Anyone privy on what hold Apple back on supporting Nvidia? The only info I read was due to some earlier bad blood, but I wonder why hurt your users just because of some old scuffles...

Slightly off-topic, but who here uses a HEDT (high-end desktop) or workstation computer for software development? Does it make a significant difference in comparison with a standard business laptop?
The latest MacBook pros (8 core, 16 threads, 32gb ram, 2tb flash disk) are finally fast enough with enough ram to both run CLion with clangd indexing and do C++ compilation/testing. Full builds are still not advisable (not that a full build is particularly useful since our prod is only Linux and we have CI/desktops to avoid cross-compilation).

Please forgive my ignorance but the specs on this are just average in my opinion. Why would I choose this over a custom build pc with almost the same, if not better, components? My experience with all apple products at work has been quite bad so I might be a little biased.
If you don't get why you'd want to buy this, then it's not aimed at you. "Why would I pay AWS to host a Virtual Machine for me when I can get a physical host on Hetzner for the same price, if not less, that's 5x better?" -- the point has truly been missed.
