It's the next step removed from the tablet based ordering that has taken over in restaurants. Like those tablets, it won't be everywhere, but its easy to imagine it being ubiquitous, especially in chain stores.

Tablets? We now have QR codes on tables that point to the menu online, including payment gateway.

> Anything you read thats more than 3 months old in this field is obsolete Sigh. I'll see you in another three months when you say the same again.

I set an alarm to re-evaluate all of my workflows to avoid complacency, see you in July 3 months ago I was still building webapps, I’m definitely on the “paying to summarize info on a screen is obsolete” bandwagon now. All my products just have an AI calling or messaging customers about what the AI did, event driven architectures triggered by something hitting an email inbox, or in the real world, or other API. You d…

Apps are just interfaces, the real value is shifting to AI that acts and communicates directly. Curious to see how far this model goes by July.

yeah, actual phone calls are expensive, but voice memos are inexpensive

maybe someone could solve that friction in a more seamless and cheaper way than incumbent's rails offer

It's not data leakage. If the experiment is to see how the AI behaves on its own, then of course it needs to know the outcomes of its decisions (either automatically, or fed to it by a human), which of course influence its next decisions. This is providing the AI with retained memory, which is essential to the experiment. It's similar to an AI writing code which it then runs and parses the logs to see the outcome and…

How is it not analogous to data leakage? The claim is that the system works autonomously, or at minimum could , but there is effectively signal via human in the loop feedback. That's leakage into test time evaluation. Also the coding analogy is malappropriated, in that the llm is using its own signals autonomously in the environment. Using a kalman filter on a ICBM with its own sensors is analogous to the coding agen…

> A system where a human is course correcting based on signals/sensor data

the human isn't course correcting; the agent is course correcting based on the feedback data; the human is just inputting the feedback data to the agent in cases where the agent isn't able to access that data itself (due to the tooling not yet being in place for such)

data leakage would be the following:

  - agent makes a prediction for problem A based on training data
  - feedback from the result is fed back to the agent
  - agent regenerates a prediction for problem A, incorporating the feedback
but in this case:

  - agent makes a decision on Problem A based on training data
  - feedback from the decision is fed back to the agent
  - agent makes a decision for Problem B (not revisiting Problem A), a new Problem that is dependent on the outcome of Problem B

“We also won’t be first against the wall when the revolution comes (see this very blog for proof of innocence)” This is going through some people’s minds the more pushback grows (see Altman molotov, Maine data center moratorium)

For decades we moved to a knowledge based economy, now we have perversely wealthy people saying they're coming for those jobs. The thought of 10s of millions of people with nothing to do but starve to death ought to scare those wealthy people.

> The thought of 10s of millions of people with nothing to do but starve to death ought to scare those wealthy people.

It doesn't, it won't, and it shouldn't. It's not explored in game theory and criminal justice tries to conceal this but the starving will kill and eat each other long before they organize and mob the wealthy.

It plays out in every prison riot, governmental collapse, and other condition of anarchy.

This idea that the poor will mob the rich is feel-good Hollywood idealism that has been wholly undermined by identity politics. The poor will sooner kill and eat you just because you're easier to reach.

If (1) many bright and very online people are going to lose their jobs, and (2) the response has not been mass unionization, might I rethink [1] a more likely future of work or rethink [2] the psychology of the average/collective knowledge workforce, or... "where union" in short. Perhaps the concept is too foreign for white collars, or on average folks think they'll be OK and it's the juniors who'll go... maybe too f…

To extend on what Jensson wrote: A union has the power to organise one thing, to withdraw labour . In the industrial era, the threat of all the workers not showing up was a threat to end a business. If AI does what is promised, to replace labour, then a threat to withdraw labour is only threatening the owners with a good time.

Yeah, the swing riots ultimately did not lead to better working conditions

Riots are very different to trade unions in the same way that a civil war is different from an electoral democracy.

Well, if riots don’t help, I don’t think peaceful strikes work better.

Yes? I'm saying unions, whose power is strikes, cannot possibly work because the strikers have zero power in the circumstance "we have decided to make you all redundant".

And I’m providing further evidence for your claim.
