Location: Toronto, Canada Remote: Yes (or hybrid)

https://joecardoso.dev

Willing to relocate: Yes

What I do: I build agentic systems and full-stack infrastructure — things that ship, observe themselves, and run autonomously.

Recent work:

- Founding contributor at NimbleBrain: designed the agentic loop and workflow engine that guides AI agents through building and publishing MCP server integrations end-to-end

- Co-created Vispyr: self-hosted observability platform on AWS with automated infra provisioning, OTel instrumentation, and a full Grafana telemetry stack

- Mozilla Firefox contributor: accessibility and DevTools CSS refactors

Stack I reach for: Python, TypeScript, AWS, Docker, PostgreSQL, Grafana stack, OpenTelemetry, MCP

AI-native: I build with Claude Code daily. Comfortable across the agentic toolchain — RAG, vector DBs, MCP, context engineering.

Engineer + designer who cares about how software feels and how it operates in production.

Recent: - Follow Alice (2022–now): Built self-checkout (trip selection, payments, post-booking dashboards) and working on back office tools for adventure trips (Kilimanjaro, Everest BC, safaris). - Nero Editor (creator, 2025): Infinite canvas for black-and-white image exploration with real-time GPU luminance mapping. - Tickadoo (2024): High-performance map-based event discovery. - Shundo (creator, 2023): Keyboard-first Windows productivity app (file search, calculator, recent VS Code projects) built with Tauri + Rust.

Looking for product-focused roles where I can sit at the intersection of engineering, design, and product (frontend/fullstack or design engineer), ideally on small teams that care about craft, performance, and thoughtful UX.

You have a Web/Mobile app that's a mess? That needs some love and a responsible maintainer? Or need to migrate an old codebase to something more modern? A web app that's not responsive for a mobile screen and needs some optimizations?

Where other programmers find enjoyment in working with new shiny infra/frameworks/tech stacks I find enjoyment and purpose on maintaning stuff, taking care of software that powers current systems and serve real users. No matter how old the tech stack is, today more than ever it is crucial to make software reliable and stable. I maintained and migrated many systems over the years, doing it gradually over short or longer time periods depending on the task, with an eye to quality and with the help of tests.

I’m an experienced remote worker, based in the EU. I over communicate and willing to build trust. I’m a contractor and I already have some gigs, I’m currently available for ~20hrs/week at 35/40€/hr depending on the project.

A note on AI coding: I know how to best leverage these tools in assisting me BUT I’m the solely responsible for the code I push so you won’t get any slop or vide coded stuff from me. I know when to use these tools, when not and for what.
