Northwestern Mutual | Devops Engineers | Milwauke, New York, Remote (US) | Full-Time At Northwestern Mutual, we are strong, innovative and growing. We invest in our people. We care and make a positive difference.

Northwestern Mutual (NM) has been helping families and businesses achieve financial security for over 161 years. Through a distinctive, whole-picture planning approach including both insurance and investments, we empower people to be financially confident. We combine the expertise of our financial professionals with a personalized digital experience and leading-edge technology to best serve our clients.

We work in a fast-paced agile environment. We embrace out-of-box thinking, bold ideas, experimentation and the eagerness to continuously learn. We are not shy about trying new technologies and challenge our own ideas. We live by concepts of fail-fast, continuously deploy and automate everything.

I'm looking to expand my teams by hiring an additional software engineer to work on initiatives to improve CI/CD, as well as everything around the SDLC, through software. For example we are collecting a lot of data about our pipelines, but not doing anything with it. We could build something to expose relevant data to people to help them help themselves in how their pipelines is built/organized.

For a fairly old company, we leverage a lot of new stuff, deploying our services in Kubernetes, and doing a lot of experimentations with Serverless, but having having some experience with the older classic technologies is also a plus since not every team reached a high maturity state.

Please apply directly at the following job posting and mention you are coming from Hacker News: https://northwesternmutual.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/CORPO...

Parse.ly | Frontend / Backend / DevOps | Remote | Full-Time | https://parse.ly

You'd be entering our hiring process early, as we only just kicked off our hiring wave on Dec 1, 2020. As for Parse.ly, our entire stack is in Python and JavaScript, and our team has innovated in areas related to real-time analytics, building some of the best open source tools for working with modern stream processing technologies.

Our frontend team has also built one of the best-looking dashboards on the planet, using bespoke visualizations atop D3.js. We are now expanding our reach into the area of petabyte-scale log data analysis in order to deliver insights to our customers.

And, we are growing! We have three open positions on the ~25-person product/engineering/design team, which operates on the fully distributed model. These are: 1. Frontend Engineer (JavaScript, UX); 2. Backend Engineer (Python, Distributed Systems); and 3. DevOps Engineer (Python, Ansible, Terraform, AWS).

Our frontend team owns the core experience of Parse.ly’s customer-facing SaaS products -- most importantly, the real-time analytics dashboard. In the spirit of Edward Tufte, we do whatever it takes to deliver awesome user interfaces to our customers. Our backend team owns a real-time analytics infrastructure that processes over 2 million pageviews per minute from 10,000 high-traffic sites. It operates a fleet of cloud servers that include thousands of cores of live data processing using cutting-edge technologies like Spark, Kafka, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, and others. Our DevOps infrastructure is a multi-hundred-node cloud footprint in AWS, leveraging self-hosted open source clusters, managed by Ansible and Terraform, and monitored by tools like Elastic Stack and Datadog. If any of this sounds fun, we could use help!

Join us to build the world's best content analytics system. Apply at work@parsely.com with a couple paras describing why you're interested, a link to any portfolio/code you think is relevant, and/or your resume or LinkedIn profile.

Make sure to mention HN and the role you're interested is, among: "Frontend Engineer", "Backend Engineer", and "DevOps Engineer". Also, please list your years of programming experience, current timezone/location, and daily working hours (e.g. 10am-6pm ET). Note that though we can hire from most locations, we will prioritize those near US_Eastern, US_Central, and US_Mountain timezones, due to our current team working hours.
