While "Changing the world" and "Making the world a better place" are core goals of those of us working with technology, it feels as if these phrases have been abused to the point where everyone just rolls their eyes when they hear them. When someone says in a startup/recruiting/motivational context that they aim to "change the world", there's an implied "for the better".
That makes the OP's appeal to "change the world [for the better]" highly similar to the "make the world a better place" phrasing highlighted in the linked 'Silicon Valley' spoofs.
