Some impressions right after the download: * I can't see why I have to give my e-mail address. * The Electron setup process is very nice! Though, I wouldn't have minded a lightweight installer, with little more than a wrapper around curl. * After installing the software, I can't see it anywhere - nor from the XFCE app finder, nor in $PATH. I know I should read the documentation, but it'd be nice if I could at least f…

It took me a bit of reading through the luna-manager sources but it appears to install it to $HOME/.luna/bin

I'm happy that you are already familiar a little bit with Luna code! Now if you want, you can contribute to the project easily! :D

Answering a little more serious, the installation path on any Unix system is described in our documentation here: https://luna-lang.gitbooks.io/docs/content/installation.html :)

Interesting, we will investigate it ASAP. In the meantime, please try Chrome instead. We'll try to fix it soon. I'm really sorry for the incontinence!

I think you mean inconvenience, but incontinence works too, since it sounds like the OP had a crappy experience ;)

You are right, I definitely wanted to use the "inconvenience" word here, but it seems my dictionary knows better what is happening :D

Be aware, before downloading: This application will not run without providing an e-mail address. It also forces data collection. I will not use such software.

@moondoge, if you don't want to provide your mail, just write anything in this field, we do NOT validate it in any way. However, we would be very thankful if you provide your real mail address, so we can track how Luna is used and improve the experience. Every data we collect is described here: http://www.luna-lang.org/alpha-data.html . We try to collect only insensitive data, that tell us how Luna is used and how well it performs.

Hi, I'm one of Luna founders, I'll be happy to answer any questions! :)

This looks absolutely awesome! Very excited to try it out. My biggest question that I couldn't immediately answer from the website is how well this deals with larger than memory datasets. Can it source data from a Postgres DB? A Cassandra cluster? Can I build/debug on local CSVs and then apply the dataflow to live data in an S3 bucket?

This seems like my dream environment come true. Can I build a web server with it? Does it have package management?

We don't have a webserver library yet, but a simple one is coming soon (probably this or next week). As for package management – well, we figured it's to good have some packages to manage first and not to rush into that. It is also a nice effort for the community, if there would be anyone interested in contributing such a system (thus earning eternal fame ;))

Hi @bsaul, our website is currently full of screencasts. If they do not load in your web browser, please tell us what is the browser and what system are you using. The ifrst screencast should appear in the website header - please wait couple of seconds and see if the movie will load there. In the meantime, please test it using Chrome! :)

I see really fast and hard to understand animations. What i mean is a 20 minute video demonstrating how to solve a real problem in the environment.

@bsaul, video tutorials are a very interesting idea. In the first release, however, we have incorporated few toy-projects and interactive tutorial, which guides you step by step inside the product. Do you think video tutorials are better to understand / follow than examples or interactive tutorials ?

Looks cool - Is it easy to interact with a SQL database, ideally Postgres?

Hey! For now the best way to interact with Postgres is, I think, using an HTTP wrapper server. A better way to do this needs to be created. Maybe as a community effort? ;)

@garyclarke27 if you are interested in helping us create such binding, we would love to support your effort as much as we can. Just tell us about it using our chat / forum (http://chat.luna-lang.org) or (http://discuss.luna-lang.org) and we will figure out the best way to make it happen! :) The basic building blocks are already there!
