Spam calls killed telephony. The greed of phone companies allowed it to happen. They could have addressed the problem with technical measures, such as displaying the verified name of the caller—whether a person or a company. Showing only a phone number is not good enough.

It works versus serious companies cold calling you. Scammers and semi-scammers still call. There is some need to adress what it doesn't solve too.

why do you assume Spain and Sweden are representative and not the US or Canada? I'm curious how many people live in countries with effective versions of this list vs not
in either case instead of a do not call list, they should be banned completely from calling any number in the country. you could do it by prefix if you wanted to still use the list mechanically, maybe? But the only reason I see for an opt in list is to allow the marketing companies to still exist

I need this. I've had bloody Freshworks calling me every single day for the past month, even though I ask them to remove me from their list every time. It doesn't matter if I ask nicely, whether I listen to their pitch or don't, whether I make threats, they still call. I will never, ever, work with Freshworks, Freshdesk, Freshservice, or any of their other products as a direct result of this.
Look up what the name of the list is in your country, cite it the next time they call, and that you'll report them to unless they cease, I'm sure they'll get the message :)
Most of the people doing cold-calling been trained to listen for the names of the lists, and have strict orders what to do with the number in case someone they call brings it up.

I don't disagree with this, but for people suffering from these daily spam calls today, there might be ways to fix that, in a shorter time-frame than "petition the government, then propose a law, then get the law into agreement, then get the law into effect". If we're being clear about what countries people are talking about, there wouldn't be so much FUD about the subject.

I wonder how much we even need international calls from unknown numbers. In my life I have literally never legitimately had a call from an unknown number outside of the country. I guess it could be different if you have many connections or business deals internationally. But I feel like the average person could restrict inbound international calls to contacts only and be better off for it.
Super common when looking for work in the EU tech scene.
