I would put mikrotik ahead of ubiquiti in terms of giving control to do stuff. But.... more of a learning curve.

I use both mikrotik and ubiquiti at home. The mikrotik is necessary for a few things the ubiquiti can't do, but mostly it's a wash.

Incidentally mikrotik tends to be behind ubiquiti for rolling out new wifi stuff

Construction projects, festivals, etc. Bad cellular reception is more likely to be an issue far from other infrastructure.

I would think if you are doing projects that big, you would in fact want dedicated devices instead of all-in-ones.

Those are just categories. For every major project or festival there’s a long tail of tiny projects on a shoestring budget out there.

Why cant an android phone with ethernet tethering to a router suffice? I've done this using an android phone, usb-c hub w/ethernet nic, and and edgerouter lite before. The biggest missing piece i see is the option for an external antenna.

The incredulity I feel at HN types hyping up UniFi is pretty high. A for-profit company centralizing commodity tech into a single point of failure, what could go wrong? We've been down this road before, the hype and "magic" is never worth it... Come on, guys.

A few years ago I was running my UDM. Wifi on 2,4GHz and 5GHz was working fine. Then after an upgrade some of my devices start losing connectivity after a while, happened multiple times a week or day. Only restart helped.

I was going mad until I discovered that only the 2,4GHz ones are losing connectivity. Then I started researching and found out that it was not just me, it was just bad code in firmware that was not fixed in any of the versions that came out before I had enough, sold the device and swore off this garbage.
