In the energy section, they talk about using nuclear fusion to power AI... but not solar. What a joke.

Well yeah, AI power consumption doesn't match the solar production curve.

That's interesting - I would generally like to use something like Cluade Code heavily during work hours and sparsely otherwise. Plus I assume most LLM-for-knowledge-work-at-industrial-scale demand will be similar as these datacentres are built out.

I mean this is obviously a false dichotomy. A few years ago I could have said that when you let bots interact with users you always got Tay. I refuse to believe that our options are a bot programmed to sound like the guardian or one that wants to rape will stancil. And I do not think that failing to find a correct balance means we should stop trying to improve the level of balance we can achieve.

My point is that "anti-woke" or whatever is not balanced. We've constructed statistical models based on enormous corpora of English text, and those models keep telling us that there is not really a statistical difference between whatever Elon Musk is trying to create and MechaHitler! I'm not saying this is conclusive evidence, but I am saying it's our best inference from the data we have so far.

Or that rhetoric like yours is common, so LLMs conflate unrelated ideas — such as opposition to neo-Marxist philosophy and Nazism.

Are you suggesting it would be better if the AGI we build is a psychopath? I think that's probably a bad idea, personally

I didn't say anything about what would be better . Only what's possible. But also "psychopath" is nowhere near what I described.

An intelligence without emotions would be a psychopath. Empathy is an emotion

I've seen several European initiatives similar to this before, and the same question is always asked: what does this actually do?

People (at least on HN) seem to be in agreement the Europe is too regulatory and bureaucratic, so it feels fair to question the practicality of any American initiatives, as we do for European ones.

What does this document practically enact today? Is there any actual money allocated? Deregulation seems to be a theme, so are there any examples of regulations which have been cleansed already? How about planning? This document is full of directives and the names of federal agencies which plan to direct, so what are the actual results of said plans that we can see today and in the coming years?

Isn’t this just another version of the sentiment “follow the science”? It isn’t like they’re gonna force AI companies to have their systems declare that God created the universe a few thousand years ago…

> homosexuality is objectively morally wrong

Just want to point out that the current Treasury Secretary (Scott Bessent) is a gay man.

We are going to literally have Big Brother. Wtf

Its name is Grok or AWS Bedrock. Please do not dead name.

It’s ironic the description of bias and unbiased is totally opposite here. An unbiased model will often times say things that you don’t agree it.

“Objective” … “free from to-down ideological bias” …

So like making sure everyone knows that 2+2=5 and that we have always been at war with East Asia?

It's worth considering total lifecycle use of water (mining, production and operation) for nuclear and solar. Solar: ~300-800 L/MWh [0] Nuclear: ~3000 L/MWh [1] 0: https://iea-pvps.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/Water_Footpr... 1: https://www-pub.iaea.org/MTCD/Publications/PDF/P1569_web.pdf

Water we have plenty of. We can desalinate as much as we need to

Build subsurface wells and responsible brine dispersion infrastructure then come back and tell me we can desalinate as much as we need to.

Looking forward to Mechahitler ~~elected~~ first AI president in 2049. Sorry... not elected... sworn in... with the book 'To Serve Man'

It’s far more likely that it all go down along the lines of the scene from Terminator … what was it? … (paraphrasing) “You better turn on Skynet right now, General, because I need to look good to the defense industry”
