I am lost. Where did Musk say anything about fanciness of the code? Or is it your interpretation of what he said?

Comments talking about how Musk will look at those screenshots of code and somehow determine an employee's worth are hilarious. This obviously has nothing to do with evaluating a developer's quality; this is a classic move dictators do to determine who has chugged the kool-aid all the way (who are the most loyal and subservient underlings willing to demean themselves to this level). Nothing more, nothing less.
I guess we have different definitions of what's actually demeaning.

Ok, so that’s one person that just needs to explain his role to the new boss. But the same excuse can’t apply to everyone on the team.
I'm no Elon fan, but why does essentially everyone in these threads automatically assume he is wrong? Has no one here worked at companies where there was more dead weight than talent? Where 80% of the work being done is by 20% of the people, and there are whole teams that do almost nothing? For one, there's more thoughtful ways of joining a company and remaking the culture that aren't a shitshow. Instead of starting with 50% layoffs, you could have started with the ultimatum to stay for 'hardcore twitter' or not. Then you have a loyal set of employees AND reduced headcount.
He has been very aggressive to be sure, but the media is following this unlike any other reorg because Twitter is their livlihood.

I personally think he wants to move Twitter mostly on maintenance mode until he has cleaned house, and then slowly rehire when new features are more clear. For that, running on 20% staff might be actually ok.
The key would be to retain the right people. And I'm not sure which filter I'd use.
