Since when does the PDP-6 implement only dichotomous state?

I have never seen a PDP-6 in its natural habitat (only in zoos) so take this with a grain of salt, but I'm pretty sure the PDP-6 is not a rhetorical device.

I feel like you didn't click the link.

Parting of ways? Sure. In this case they are in charge of the package index but have removed most maintainers from their projects, implicitly taking charge there too. This is a problem.

How can they remove maintainers from their own projects? If my project is yawaramin/foobar, how can Ruby Central remove me as the mantainer from there?

This thread has probably run its course, and newer postings[1] have more information, but I'll respond anyway if it's helpful...

The official RubyGems projects in question were under a GitHub organizational account, not a single user's account. A subset of the maintainers had the "owner" flag on the org. One of those folks basically initiated the takeover. See [2] for a more detailed recounting.

I think the missing piece here is that almost every person publicly involved with RubyGems’ development has left the project in recent weeks. I don’t have any special insight here, but from an outsider’s perspective it seems as through Ruby Central is trying to turn a former “host” relationship into a “control” relationship.

I think you're right, but I suspect the root here is one of legal liability - if rubycentral is operating as a nonprofit that hosts _a recurring attack vector on other companies_, they'll have legal obligations to secure that service against those attacks. I assume they are continuously deploying out of that repository, and took the simplest route to controlling the attack vectors? I'm not sure how anyone familiar wi…

Well, there's more information out and it seems pretty.. damning. I wasn't convinced by "power grab", but "economic pressure from our sole remaining major sponsor" is _way_ more believable, and the chain is events is getting fairly clear. Check out Joel's explanation for a coherent delve into the events: https://joel.drapper.me/p/rubygems-takeover/

Now I just have to hope the fallout from this includes a less centralized replacement for the tools I'm used to - I haven't found anything solid yet, but I imagine andre will be examining this problem space with rv now.

That's a dumb move though, isn't it? The original maintainers will now just move their projects somewhere else, and the 'official' projects have now effectively been killed. This is a suicidal move for the Ruby ecosystem.

[flagged]

The article is on his blog[0], and is written in the first person. I assume we're agreeing that he wrote that? Are you saying that the blog did not say that he wants fewer non-white people in London? I picked out the specific parts in [1]. In addition there is this quote: > I thought I might move there one day. That was then. Now, I wouldn't dream of it. London is no longer the city I was infatuated with in the late…

You are assuming an implication that isn't there.

He never said "I want fewer non-white people".

Every rational person knows what happens to a city when there's a massive influx of immigrants. So we all know what he is talking about, and it's not what you wrongly assumed.

> He's literally saying that britain is now bad because there's too many non-white people living there. No, he didn't. That's something you are hallucinating he said.

> Now, I wouldn't dream of it. London is no longer the city I was infatuated with in the late '90s and early 2000s. Chiefly because it's no longer full of native Brits. Do elaborate on how exactly you tell if someone is a "native brit"? Who qualifies for such an honor?

That's not what you claimed. You not only claimed he said there are many non-white people, you claimed DHH *literally* said that's bad.
