I tried going from a budget Lenovo Linux to a Macbook Pro after graduating from university. The hardware was solid, but it is probably my most disappointing purchase.

Right now, I'm extremely satisfied with my workhorse Linux desktop and less so satisfied with my Linux laptop battery life, but I mostly use desktop anyways.

Yeah it's wild to me that they'd consider going with some first gen startup solution for what is ultimately their most important professional device. And it's starting at $2k so it's not like it's insanely cheap either.

Star Labs have delivered a number of other high quality linux laptops - I even used one as my daily work driver for a few years at a previous job. They're not a startup.

Depends, this is a desktop replacement, not ultra portable. From a gravity perspective it makes sense.

I respectfully decline, I had macbook Pro m1 or 2 and the screen went black after 1 year and was quoted 1k to fix it. I spent that 1k on a linux laptop instead and that's been going strong for 3 years.

Framework actually ships its products and has tons of public reviews etc. way before StarLabs got a single laptop out.

Incorrect: Star Labs have been shipping laptops since 2018, before Framework was even a company.

What an unfortunate name, after a fighter aircraft that has been dubbed "widowmaker" because it crashed so often, and could only sold to various air forces around the world because Lockheed heavily bribed the decisionmakers

That being said, the laptop itself looks rather neat, especially the battery runtime
