hope not to late, i am a contractor working on a project for a company not registered in USA. recently when arriving to USA to visit this companies' local office i was stopped at border control and almost denied. took 8 hours and a body search to get out of there. how to explain clearly to immigration officer this situation.

These are unprecedented times where green card status and even citizenship can be taken away. I think that all that one can do is to know one's rights and have the name and number of a lawyer handy who can be contacted in the event the worst happens. The ACLU has some very clear guidance regarding the rights of U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens when questioned or detained by ICE (or another immigration agency).

Only that even with green card holders, we have seen instances where CBP is asking to see electronic devices and reviewing their social media accounts. But we haven't had a green card holding client detained or denied admission.

lol. in LA everyone's instagram just shows ICE getting beaten and the epstein files posts that follow these. I wonder how fun it must be to travel nowadays.

At the time he barely had 10k subscribers. The merits of the "genius" VISA should be for research and engineering endeavors.

Do you honestly think it's a good idea to make it harder to get a visa in this country? Particularly one that's based on merit/markets?

There’s also some tourists being detained, e.g. https://www.dw.com/en/german-nationals-us-immigration-detain... One common thread seems to be past DUIs, misdemeanors and infractions.

Generally no, because those are more likely to have state or local government employees working on ICE’s behalf. For instance in Florida a weigh station employee said they were calling ICE on people who looked (and sounded?) Hispanic. https://www.forbes.com/sites/stuartanderson/2025/07/09/attor...

Reading that article, it reads more like the person skipped the weigh station and got pulled over by the highway patrol cop usually at the weigh station. Weigh stations will often have a patrol car sitting by the highway that pulls over anyone speeding or who needs to stop at the weigh station but didn't. So CBP (not ICE) was called by a highway officer.

Still to your point of a state government authority calling the feds because someone they interacted with looked Hispanic.
