How does it compare to neocities.org, which is sadly not EU?

It seems to be more focused on business static hosting, which Neocities definitely is not. There's at least a dozen business static web hosting solutions out there and we're happy to share space with them. The main concern isn't much about privacy, we have our share of crazy laws as well, age id, etc. sadly, that's where the society is heading, but mostly because of the worries about depending on a service where someone could decide to pull the plug because of international politics, affecting users in the process.

I can kind of see it, but hetzner costs, what, 5€/m for your own server with 10TB traffic included? How is a 4€/m markup remotely justified for what amounts to setting up an apache server and pointing a domain at it? And cutting traffic to a twentieth?

If motor oil for your car costs 20€, what justifies spending 40€ to have a shop change the oil for you?

Bad analogy, a shop can't write software to cheaply automate oil changes
