Not at all mutually exclusive. Whether Facebook removes disinformation does not affect how much power Facebook has to distribute information.

While not mutually exclusive, it is clear that the importance of Facebook removing disinformation is linked proportionally to the power Facebook has to distribute information. Yes, but not proportionally to the power Facebook should have to distribute information.

We've never had yellow journalism powered by trillion dollar companies that are extremely good at manipulating your average Joe to keep consuming more based on their addiction algorithms.

Those were the conditions of the original yellow journalism, including people who would literally chase you down on the streets shouting headlines at you and trying to get you to buy a paper on your way to and from work. You had people in backrooms analyzing sales based on different newspaper features and writers - and figuring out what headlines would sell the most.

That's still population or city level targeting. Not individual.

Well, yes, though arguments can be made as to whether the two are orthogonal, or if the relationship is an inverse linear one, or something more complex (I'd lean toward an S-curve and that we're currently in the middle of it).

I think your view of what misinformation looks like is a bit outdated. It's not just dumb chainmails anymore. One claim I saw passed around recently, for example, was that this particular video on the White House lawn was greenscreened. The people I saw discussing it were saying things like "you can tell cause of how pixelated the background is" or "look, the trees are on a 10 second loop!". I don't know what we coul…

Healthy skepticism is not only easy to teach but easy to drill, and yet I remember no time in my early education that it was even a topic in class, except maybe tangentially - a short story theme, a blurb about a famous scientist or inventor. I doubt that has changed.

My high school in Indiana in the 1990s taught skepticism; there were two required classes called “citizen’s government” and “social criticism”.

We watched Dr. Strangelove in Social Crit and had a two-hour discussion following. It was awesome.

One person's investigative reporter is another persons 'conspiracy theorist' depending on your beliefs and views. You are promoting your beliefs and views on this thread, and attempting to argue about the credibility of a writer you don't agree with or believe. This is what the broader thread is about, you're proving my point again.

You're all over the map with Bob Lazar & Edward Snowden here. Webb has done amazing work on uncovering Maxwell/Epstein facts and connections ignored by the corporate media. Your idea that 'reasonable people' ignore anything not promoted and discussed in the corporate media (Snowden for example) again proves my point.
