I just ended a two-year sabbatical where I finished an around the world trip of visiting all seven continents of the world. I'm not entirely up to speed yet. I would fail a leet code test right now. Lately, I've been working on a side project for fun – https://randomdailyart.com/. I am doing a lot of work with Go Hugo. Also, a ton of cool automation stuff with Huginn, n8n, etc. I think it's better to start with the fun stuff I enjoy. Slowly, I'm getting back into the heavy TypeScript react work from before my sabbatical.

I've got an unusually mixed background, but the consistent thing seems to be: building (and sometimes designing) products from the ground up.

My professional experience is in startups as a founding or lead engineer and in freelancing. Basically always working with small relatively informal teams.

I also occasionally get ideas for software I want to build myself, which has made up a significant part of my experience: from making games, to developer tools, to e.g.: https://diskatlas.com/

I generally prefer to work with web tech these days and have about 5 or 6 years experience there, out of my 17 total programming.

I'd be a great pick for building some new software from the ground up using web tech, especially if it involves some uncommon challenges that require novel solutions, or dipping into research, exploration via prototypes, etc.

Looking primarily for freelance work, but would definitely consider the right early-stage startup.

Technologies: Computing Infrastructure (Servers, Networking, Storage), GNU/Linux, Docker, Kubernetes, VMware, OpenStack, CI/CD, Distributed Systems

About me: I am a Bay Area native and lifelong technologist. Built my first computer when I was 8, got exposed UNIX/Linux systems and installed Red Hat Linux and Slackware in late 1900s, which sparked my interest in technology and set me on the path I am on. Experience and skills in the Systems, Infrastructure, DevOps, and SRE spaces; from the physical layer (data center and computer hardware) up to supporting apps in production and the developers that build them. Recent years focused on the emerging cloud native computing stack, helping software developers and organizations be successful with it. I bring a systems theory approach to thinking about and solving problems. Have many areas of interest, and am also interested in applying my skillset into various other (not traditionally considered tech) industries and verticals like transportation, energy, water, agriculture, etc. that can have a large positive societal impact.

Willing to relocate: Maybe

Technologies:

* Cloud technologies (AWS/Azure/GCP) - a lot of Terraform work as of late. Recently automated GPU-based infrastructure for a MedTech startup (fun times).

* NodeJS/Meteor/SailsJS

* Serverless (going heavy on that one)

* Crypto/Blockchain - building Crypto infrastructure (multiple Blockchains), customized libraries and APIs, as well as front-end (MetaMask) solutions.

* Wordpress/CodeIgniter/Yii/Drupal (Components, Hacks, Themes) - less motivated, unless truly cutting edge (or WP VIP projects)

* CI & Unit testing - Jenkins, Mocha & Karma for JS, Toast for PHP, as well as Selenium

* Django (general Python too) - to a lesser extent

Resume: Upon request

Email: dev (at) azdv.co

Looking for Challenging projects. Most recently worked extensively with Serverless & AWS APIs, building cloud-related prototypes, before that worked as a cloud automation specialist.
