To be fair I treat AI in the same way I treat other human beings; if claims are made then they better be backed up by a reputable source.

ChatGPT is very good at giving me a link to a source. Friends making outrageous claims, not so much.

To be fair I treat AI in the same way I treat other human beings; if claims are made then they better be backed up by a reputable source. ChatGPT is very good at giving me a link to a source. Friends making outrageous claims, not so much.

That seems like a reasonable approach, if you're at least skimming the source afterwards to verify.

It'd be good if most people did that as a bare minimum, though it doesn't seem to be how it's often done currently.

This is the type of statement that often comes from pro China people. Because the quality of BYD in China is lower than outside of China, making it more propaganda than truth. Edit: Sigh. I wish people would actually travel to China and try a BYD and then go to Australia and try BYD. it’s like 2 different cars. The China BYD is trash. BYD in Australia is actually quite nice and feels like really good value.

Perhaps they have different models that are prevalent in different locations? e.g. Folks in China prefer the cheaper models?

Tbh i have to agree with you. I tried byd and cuts corners everywhere. Look at the screen: static video instead of Tesla interactive, low screen dpi. Other small details I can’t recall. I also don’t like Tesla, but at least they have a nicer screen. Tesla also has big gaps between their parts looking from outside.

Corners cut on something I don't want in the car anyway sounds great tbh.

I think it tells about the rest but that’s just me. When you look at a machinery you might look at small details how is soldered to estimate quality. Might not be accurate but it’s a signal.

Not at all why Apple gave up on the EV, it was profitability. They even gave up on building AI cloud infra because it was cheaper to rent. Finance can veto Tim Cook there.

My impression was Apple gave up on building EVs because they wouldn't be as profitable as phones and tablets.

It's still hard for me to grasp that companies will turn down hugely profitable new ventures because they aren't as profitable their current products.

No. The first few seasons of Formula E were such that, half way through the race you jumped out of one car and finished the race in a second car. Because your battery was dead. Electric does not have the capacity to compete with even F1's artificially limited gas tanks.

This is despite dramatically reduced performance design and slower tracks.

Formula E is so much more fun than F1 though, because it doesn't have all the BS drama that F1 has adopted to buoy viewership. They do have silly gimmicks though. Before a race, viewers vote on which driver they like the best, and that racer gets a boost they can use during the race!

Also they use tires that are basically road ready, so that's fun.

That was from the official Nurburgring page, includes prototype cars. Your list seems to be missing most of those. The slowest from the EV list above is 6:48 for the Ford Supervan.
