Speeding is a given, even a necessity on most US highways. Everyone is speeding by 10 maybe even 15 mph as a baseline.

I don't think it is a necessity. People just don't generally have patience. Generally people driving classic/collectible cars usually run at or below speed limits and...they are fine. You just have to embrace being overtaken by everyone. It is especially hard for people suffering with fragile masculinity though.

Agree completely. People think they are being safer by going fast "with the flow" while in reality statistics refute this perspective entirely. Slower is safer periodt.

That time is now, thankfully the consumer protection organizations and car testing organizations stepped up and will / should now test in a standardized fashion an electric car's driving range and slap them on the wrist if it's much different from their advertised amount.

"a slap on the wrist" by a consumer association is not the same as a legal condemnation. (I'm assuming the "consumer association" is not a regulator, but just a bunch of people coming together.)

It's useful for the consumer, and is supposedly part or the normal "immune system" of a free market.

However, the "legal" part has to be handled by regulators, following laws enacted by lawfully elected representatives.

This part is being slashed by lawfully elected executives (in part) and by unelected "advisors". One of whom is actively doing things that should get him prosecuted.

Also, I hope the consumer protection association is not depending on any kind of public funding - otherwise, I hope their website doesn't use banned words like "diverse".

I know you weren’t expecting a serious response, but Tesla does use Git. They actually use a fairly standard version of GitHub enterprise.

Using git does not mean there is a PR process in place. Git can be used just in the way the GP describes, recklessly putting binaries onto cars.

Just because there's a PR process in place doesn't mean that it's any good. At one place, we desperately avoided some sections of the code base because we didn't want to trigger a PR that would force us to interact with the team running that section. They were slow, obnoxious and power mad.

A PR is only as good as the person evaluating it. You can't even say reliably that it's better than nothing because sometimes it isn't.

Fraud is being pretty heavily normalized. The crypto space model is what all things are moving to imo with the feds being dismantled

With self-driving it's more like fraud than over-promising.

I was trying to be charitable.

From my perspective, Tesla is done. Sales are in free fall, especially in Europe and Asia, during an EV surge, the brand is dead for 2/3 of the planet (again, trying to be charitable) and the stock value is mostly relying on the promise of autonomous driving, but if they ever manage to get it work, I don't think that will be enough to repair the damages, we entered emotional/cultural territory regarding anything this guy touches.

Are you driving like a grandma slow acceleration or are you driving at low speed? The latter is much, much more important at highway speeds. Apparently the EPA test is run at 60mph Max and an average of 50mph, which would to a significant extent explain the difference if you averaged 65mph or similar. They also weight and combine it with city miles, which is probably even more generous to EVs with regen braking.

both. this particular test remained below 60mph for 85% of the trip, and below 70mph for 99%

270, wow. You could just ignore the estimate number, or go back to gas. My “tests” haha are more like 2,500 - 3,500 miles with almost ten of these under my belt and I’m a happy camper, and I don’t have to go slow but then I chose the brand with the good charging network, and I follow my formula and I own (and embrace) the extra burning of range because it’s my choice to drive hard. where do people drive under 50mph in the USA? I live in a semi-rural area, with minimal interstates, and the back roads are 60mph . I'm not comfortable going -10mph on a 2-lane with no pull-outs
