However, the backup command does not have a -b option. It does have a -V option to set the variable block size. The default block size is never 4K for variable block size. Not so hot, especially the part about making up the -b option.

ChatGPT-4 does this with too, even with things as popular as ‘jq’

Bot abuse is a huge problem for search engines and similar services. Modern scrapers are virtually impossible to detect and abusing publicly available endpoints for free compute is basically an industry today. It's a real shame. Means everything goes behind a signup wall. For reference, about 1% of the traffic I get on my site is probably human (20k quries/day). An attemted 2 million queries/day from confirmed bots.

Bot problems are dealt with via captchas. The sign-in requirements are coming up because the era of cookie-based analytics is ending; iOS already blocks many by default, and a third of internet users have adblocking on anyway. Logged-in user activity is significantly easier to to track than cookie-based tracking was.

I would say that's wishful thinking. Using only captchas doesn't work anymore if you are specially targeted and also a reason why we are seeing nowadays a combination of sign-in/phone verification/captchas to combat the bot problematic.

I still use OpenAI’s APIs (in Emacs: lovely) and Bing+ChatGPT mostly, but Bard keeps getting better. Last night I asked it a question about one of my books (“ What example programs are in the GitHub repo for the book Loving Common Lisp the Savvy Programmer’s Secret Weapon?”) to see if it incorporates real-time web search, and it did. It found the GitHub repo and gave me a good summary of what the example programs were.

For a few months, I jumped really deeply into using LangChain and LlamaIndex but I am now moving more to writing my own LLM infrastructure and tooling from scratch - fairly easy to do.

It's appears to be sort of hooked up to the internet. For example, I asked it the weather in one location and it provided accurate current weather, but in another location it responded with an "as of 10AM" answer. It definitely has much newer information than OpenAI models, but also hallucinates a fair bit.

I asked Bard for the weather in my locale and it came back with a wildly inaccurate prediction. I then asked it where it got the information and it said from "Google Search."

I checked weather.gov and told Bard the prediction was wrong and it came back and said yes it was incorrect and now agreed with me based on the weather.gov prediction.

I then tried different locale to see if it's smart enough to use a better data source on the second try. I asked about another city my family lives in and it once again came back with an inaccurate prediction. I asked where it got the prediction from and it gave me a link to the weather.gov website. I checked and the prediction Bard was giving me for the high temperature was actually the current temperature.

I can't say for sure, but it does seem like Bard has access to these websites but is struggling to properly interpret them.

I gave them my credit card early last year. You get some free credits each month. I use the APIs heavily and my monthly API bill is between $0.00 and $2.00 a month.

I am so annoyed that Google Fi is available but was just disabled by default in these same setting.

My entire family has been using custom secondary gmail accounts JUST TO USE GOOGLE FI.
